Capcom's John Diamonon shared the following today via PS Blog:
Hey PS Fam! Long time no blog. It’s my pleasure to announce that Age of Booty will finally become available today on the PSN for only $9.99. I know there was a delay bringing this title to you, but we had to make sure we fixed all the bugs before we deliver one of the most original digital games on this platform.
Anyway, Max Hoberman, the President of Certain Affinity and the developer of Age of Booty, wanted to give you some insights into this critically acclaimed game. He’ll also answer any questions you have about the game. Without further ado, heeeere’s Max!
This is a follow-up to my previous post, where I described the genesis of our upcoming downloadable pirate action RTS, Age of Booty. I left off with us signing a publishing deal with Capcom and beginning production. That was a year ago, and since then we’ve had a lot of time to improve upon the original design.... More »
Wal-Mart Stores is rapidly downsizing shelf space for music CDs while increasing availability of Blu-ray and consumer electronics in select locations, according to a new report.
The Bentonville, Ark.-based retail behemoth, citing a 23% drop in CD sales during the first four weeks of the fourth quarter, continues to scale back inventories of music packaged media; supplanting it with electronics and movies.
“We believe Wal-Mart is increasing its exposure to consumer electronics, video games and Blu-ray, and reducing floor space devoted to CDs and standard DVDs,” said Richard Greenfield, analyst with Pali Capital, in a note.
Greenfield said the chain’s floor space devoted to DVD, including Blu- ray, ranged from up modestly to down slightly.
Pali reported that an accelerated rate of sales decline for CDs combined with the slowing of digital unit sales had resulted in Q4 total unit sales declining 11.6%, compared to a 11.3% de... More »

Chris Stead: We’ve played the first Act of Gears of War 2 – everything is bigger, meaner and prettier. Does it all come down to the middleware?

The Xbox 360 has once again beaten out the PlayStation 3 in Japan. This has been a continuing trend in the Japanese markets, ever since the 360’s price cut a few weeks ago.
Though the Wii and Nintendo DS have more than double Microsoft’s sales, the fact that the 360 is moving forward looks promising. But what does it mean for Microsoft and gamers?
Let’s consider the facts:
1. The Xbox 360 price cut has already bolstered sales in Japan, and rumors have it that Microsoft may cut the price of the 360 Elites even further, as well. We saw what two weeks of sales did for Microsoft. Of course, those sales were not only helped by the price cut, but also by the release of Tales of Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery, two exclusives for the 360.
Now that the immediate surge is over, the 360 has once again fallen to fourth place in Japanese sales (behind the DS, Wii and PSP). Yet hopefully, this next round of price cuts should once again r... More »
Sometime in December or at the latest January, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the first Resident Evil all-CGI movie on Blu-ray Disc, day-and-date with DVD and PSP.
Sony describes what will be the fourth Resident Evil film as follows:
The "Umbrella Incident" that took place in Raccoon City was ended with the eradication of the deadly virus by a missile attack ordered by the government. As its operations were suspended on a global scale, Umbrella Corporation stock plummeted. This serious blow to the business giant resulted in its complete dissolution.
7 years later, at an airport somewhere in the United States. An ordinary autumn afternoon. One zombie is unleashed into this peaceful scene to attack everyone. In the airport starting to fill up with the undead, the horrific disaster is about to be repeat itself...
We've got early Blu-ray specs and extra features to share which include a nod to Resident Evil 5 on Playsta... More »
The dawn of gaming saw the release of one of the most simplistic yet addicting games ever, featuring the absolute basic fundamentals of design - Pong. More than 30 years later, gamers are blessed with the luxury of lifelike, high-definition, motion-captured cinematics than most movies could only wish they looked like.
The release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots took console gaming to an entirely new level as the first truly interactive cinematic experience graced millions of homes worldwide.
But games are not just about their realism. There is a determined crowd among us who wish to tarnish the good name of video games; those that deny games as being works of art or a means of storytelling, rivaling that of books and movies. To prove them wrong, I will count down my top 10 games which I believe to be the most artistic entries into our beloved medium.
The July NPD sales numbers have been released, and as always, Nintendo dominates in every way, while Microsoft and Sony battle it out for a distant second place. The industry continues to see large growth year over year, with a 35 percent jump in sales for the year to date, and an impressive 48 percent jump in software sales alone. With the large difference between the sales of Nintendo's hardware and software and its two main competitors, one could easily make an argument that Nintendo is to be thanked for much of that growth.
Nintendo The Nintendo Wii sold 555,000 units in July, while the Nintendo DS sold 608,400 units. While this may look like a dip from last month due to the number of weeks in July, it's still much higher than anyone else on the charts. Games for Nintendo's platforms also make up five of the top ten slots in the software sales, with Wii Fit taking the number two slot with 369,600 units sold, Guitar Hero: On Tour taking the number three ...
