Sony Announces Vodafone as PS Vita 3G Connectivity Partner

140w ago - Today Sony European Product Manager Adam Grant has officially announced Vodafone as their preferred PS Vita 3G connectivity partner.

To quote: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and Vodafone have today announced a partnership that will see Vodafone as the preferred provider of 3G connectivity for PlayStation Vita initially in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand and The Netherlands, and with Vodafone's Partner in France (SFR).

The PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi model sold in selected countries will come with a Vodafone SIM card so that users can immediately enjoy social gaming experiences on the go.

Customers will also be able to buy PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi model direct from Vodafone channels, both online and in store. In addition, customers connecting with Vodafone will receive a PlayStation Network voucher to download WipEout 2048 from PlayStation Store.

"With social gaming and connectivity at the heart of PlayStation Vita it is important that we partner with a market leading network provider, to ensure users have a high quality 3G experience." said Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

201w ago - With the release of PS3 homebrew applications such as JaicraB's PS3 USB Custom Firmware Loader v0.3 and stoker25's PS3 Registry Editor many have started modifying aspects of their PlayStation 3 console, and today Nyleveia.com (linked above) detailed how to change the PS3 fonts.

The process is actually quite simple, to quote:

"Simply take your favorite TTF font and make two copies of it, named as follows:

SCE-PS3-SR-R-LATIN
SCE-PS3-SR-R-LATIN2


And place these on your PlayStation 3 flash in the directory, /dev_flash/data/font/ overwriting the original fonts, then you simply need to go to theme settings and change the font to either rounded or pop to enjoy your new system font!"

Sony Partners with FON for Free PSP WiFi Access in Japan

310w ago - Sony announced today that it has formed a partnership with the WiFi sharing network known as FON to allow PSP owners to freely access the internet across 44,000 FON hotspots in Japan.

In addition to free Internet access, users will be able to download PSP content such as game demos, XMB themes and wallpaper images through the service.

In celebration of the announcement, a theme for Square Enix's PSP brawler Dissidia: Final Fantasy will be available to all FON-connected users.

There's been no word on if Sony plans to extend the PSPxFON service over to the U.S. and Europe at a later date.
