50°
7w ago - Ubisoft's Francois Xavier shared a new Far Cry 4 PS4 video today which allows fans to follow the PlayStation 4 development team through Nepal below!

To quote: Go behind the scenes and learn more about the research that went into building Far Cry 4′s open-world Kyrat for the next-generation. The team travelled to Nepal with VICE to draw inspiration and create authentic Kyrati characters and environments native to the region.

Far from the tourist trail, they encounter people whose stories can help an outsider better experience the fabric of life there, both culturally and politically.

In the second video, discover the immensity of Nepal and steal a glimpse at what inspired the development team to create the full open world experience of Far Cry 4. Beware!

Surprises loom at every corner. You will also visit the Tal Bahari temple, a sacred place whose intensity resonates with the devotion of its people.

Finally, venture to steep and dangerous roads that will lead you to the Guerrilla Trail, a historic road during the Civil War.

Sony Announces HBO GO for PS3 Coming Soon, PS4 to Follow

100°
35w ago - Sony Senior Vice President Phil Rosenberg of Business Development announced today that HBO GO for PS3 is coming soon, with PS4 to follow!

To quote: Earlier this evening at the inaugural [Register or Login to view links] event in New York City, HBO CEO Richard Plepler announced that HBO and PlayStation have partnered to offer the popular HBO GO app - first on PlayStation 3, with PlayStation 4 to follow.

With the HBO GO app on your PlayStation system and an HBO subscription via your cable or satellite provider, you'll have unlimited, on-demand access to your favorite HBO shows, like Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and True Detective. HBO GO offers every episode of every season of the network's best shows. You can also enjoy hit movies, sports, documentaries, and comedy specials, as well as special behind-the-scenes extras.

As a huge Game of Thrones fan, I can't wait to watch the show using my PS3. Speaking of which, see here to watch the season 4 trailer that premiered earlier this week, in case you missed it.

Keep checking back here for more updates on when the HBO GO app will be available to download on PS3 and PS4.

ESA: Follow PlayStation's Lead and Help Protect Video Games

550°
202w ago - Today Rich Taylor of the Entertainment Software Association has shared the following PSA via PlayStation Blog on the effort to help protect video games.

To quote: Today, the U.S. Supreme Court hears arguments in the case of [Register or Login to view links]/ Entertainment Software Association. They'll decide whether a California law, which would restrict the sale of "violent" computer and video games, is constitutional.

What does this mean to you, PlayStation fans?

This case could have huge implications for the industry. No one is sure what counts as a "violent" game, so the California law would suppress game developers' imagination and right to self-expression. It would also prohibit retailers from selling the games that might be perfectly legal, "just in case."

It could mean an environment where "[Register or Login to view links]" is banned from retail shelves, but the sometimes violent written works detailing Greek myths are still available on bookstores shelves and taught in classrooms.

It's a slippery slope, and the California law is similar to what Congress tried to do to comic books over fifty years ago. In a letter of support for video games, comic book legend...

Speculation: New XBox 360 Disc Protection & XBL Bans to Follow?

200°
282w ago - Speculation has commenced that XBox 360 games have new disc protection.

Recently xorloser noted that when FIFA 09 on the XBox 360 is patched with the latest update, the game is only allowed to boot from an updated version of the original XBox 360 disc type.

To quote: I noticed the other day that when FIFA'09 for Xbox360 is patched with the latest update, the flags that specify what media the game is allowed to run from have changed. Originally it was allowed to boot from a standard original Xbox360 disc, however now it is only allowed to boot from a new media type which is basically an updated version of the original Xbox360 disc type.

Those who have ever looked into the depths of the Xbox360 disc authentication scheme know that a "new" type of disc authentication has been in the works since the Xbox360 was released. It is known as the AntiPiracy v2.5 checks, or AP2.5. Is this FIFA'09 patch a sign that AP2.5 is finally going to see the light of day? If so then the ban hammer is going to come down hard. Don't say I didn't warn you

The original Xbox360 game disc was reffered to as DVD-XGD2, which I presume stands for Xbox Game Disc version 2 (with version 1 being the discs used on Xbox1). This new Xbox360 game disc just seems to be reffered to as an "updated...

Pachter: PS3 at $299 in April, XBox 360 Price Cut to Follow

200°
297w ago - Well known gaming industry analyst Michael Pachter believes that Sony will drop the price of the PlayStation 3 to $299 this April.

Pacther also indicated that Microsoft may further lower its price on the XBox 360.

To quote: Pachter, however, believes the $399 price point will finally come down to $299 in just a few months. Microsoft is likely to drop its price on the 360 as well.

"Once the PS3 is at a more affordable price point (we expect a cut to $299 in April), we think that sales of that device will once again begin to grow. We expect another cut in price for the Xbox 360, with the feature-laden Pro model likely to come down in price to $249 at or before this year's E3 show in June.

We expect Nintendo to maintain Wii pricing at $249 until the company sees signs that demand is slowing, which means a price cut may not happen until late in the year, if at all," Pachter said.
