92w ago - Today Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer.net (linked above) that they plan to shift to the next-generation PS4 console once developers can't get anything else out of the PlayStation 3 console.

As previously reported, the PlayStation 4 is also expected to launch after Microsoft's new XBox console currently slated for 2013.

To quote: "Sony will launch its next generation home console when developers are unable to improve the games they make, a senior executive at the company has said.

When that happens, Sony will have to "seriously consider" launching the PlayStation 4, worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer.

"Looking at the platform cycle, when the platform becomes something game developers are not able to improve their creations with, that's the time we have to really seriously consider shifting to the next generation," Yoshida said.

While Microsoft is rumored to be preparing to launch its new Xbox in 2013, we've heard little about Sony's next home console.

Sony has insisted its focus is on the PS3, which recently enjoyed a price cut, and the PS Vita, due out in Europe early next year.

200w ago - Folks at E3 witnessed Microsoft instantly fast forward a streamed 1080p movie right at start up. But how could this be possible?

How can a streamed 1080p movie have instant access to every point of the movie? Doesn't it need to buffer that huge file? Could this be Blu-Ray's true competitor? Or perhaps the beginning of the end for Blu-Ray?

Let's face it, why can't Microsoft sell this same technology to other content distributors, such as Netflix. Or better yet, collaborate with them to create the biggest HD streaming option for consumers, while having the biggest movie library.

TQcast (linked above) recently interviewed Michael Wolf, Senior Marketing Manager at Microsoft, about the upcoming Zune Video on Xbox Live as follows:

Q: What is the name of the new HD streaming technology?

A: The name of the feature is Zune video on Xbox LIVE, which is built on top of Smooth Streaming. Smooth Streaming is a feature of IIS Media Services, a state-of-the-art video delivery platform which enables amazing high quality video experiences that are instant on.

Q: Exactly how is this 1080p HD experience working? 1080p video would be huge files, requiring large amounts of bandwidth, how will this work without buffering timeouts?

243w ago - This is what happens when gamers fuse their favorite games together. While I can't particularly see Halo 3, and LittleBigPlanet fusing together well, one creator has gone through with it, and created his very own Halo 3: Finish the Fight level.

In the video below, Sackboy is wearing a green costume to imitate Master Chief, and as your playing the level, the Bungie song kicks giving it the extra effect.

The Warthog vehicles I have to admit are pretty nifty, and while you won't be necessarily kicking alien ass, this is definitely one of the better levels in the beta so far. Be sure to finish the fight if you have access to the beta, or watch the video.

246w ago - Don Mattrick, senior vice-president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, has said he expects the XBox 360 to secure second place in the current generation console war.

"We will sell more consoles this generation than Sony," Mattrick told Business Week.

He made the comments as Microsoft announced it was slashing the price of all three of its Xbox 360 models in the US, having recently done so in Japan also. As a result of the move, the entry level Xbox 360 Arcade is now priced at $199, making it the cheapest of the current generation of consoles on the market.

However, Mattrick said he was less confident of the Xbox 360 catching this generation's current market leader, Nintendo's Wii.

"I'm not at a point where I can say we're going to beat Nintendo," he said.
