92w ago - Following up on their Final Fantasy X HD PS3 and PS Vita announcement from this year's Tokyo Game show, Square Enix have also revealed a Final Fantasy XIII-2 PS3 and release date today.

Similar to the White Final Fantasy 13 PS3 Bundle, the Final Fantasy XIII-2 PlayStation 3 Lightning Edition version 2 console's character design is also done by Tetsuya Nomura.

To quote from Andriasang.com (linked above): "Square Enix announced today a final release date of December 15 for Final Fantasy XIII-2. Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game will be priced ¥7,980.

The PS3 version will also be released as part of a hardware bundle called 'PlayStation 3 Final Fantasy XIII-2 Lightning Edition Ver. 2.' Priced ¥37,960, this includes a 320 gigabyte hard drive.

Overseas, the game will be released in North America and Asia on January 31. The European release is set for February 3. Square Enix did not say if the special PS3 will be released outside of Japan."

178w ago - Today TheLostGamer.com (linked above) has spotted some Final Fantasy XIII PS3 Collector's Edition details on GameStop.it, GameStop's Italian-based online site.

According to the listing over on, the FFXIII Collector's Edition for PlayStation 3 is set to be priced at €79.98 and will include the following, to quote:

• Soundtrack
• Art Book
• Prequel Novel to Final Fantasy XIII (possibly an English version of the Japanese book, Episode Zero)
• Graphic Novel
• Collector Illustration (we imagine this means a postcard)

"I'd imagine that Square Enix would announce the Collector's Edition as their final "13th" announcement on February 13th, so please remember that for now this is completely unconfirmed and may be a complete mistake on Gamestop's part."

183w ago - According to UFFSite.net (linked above), Final Fantasy XIII for PS3 has hit Japan already with a sealed copy images of the game making their way to the Internet alongside screenshots from early sections of the game.

Needless to say, Square Enix and Sony are hoping for some hefty sales figures as a result.

Additionally, FinalFantasy-XIII.net has revealed a report by a Japanese magazine which states a Final Fantasy XIII PlayStation Home Space and FF13 costumes are also on the way to Sony's virtual world.

209w ago - Final Fantasy legend and XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase has stated that the development team has not had to make any concessions for the Xbox 360 port.

Final Fantasy XIII is due out on the PS3 and the Xbox 360 simultaneously in North America and Europe sometime in 2010.

However, Square Enix has confirmed that the Xbox 360 version will be a port of the PS3 version.

To quote: Giant Bomb brought word that development of the Xbox 360 version of hotly anticipated JRPG only began once the recent Japan-exclusive PS3 demo was released in April.

Some fans have expressed concern that content may be left out of both versions of the game due to DVD storage limitations.

Kitase dispelled that myth. He said: "The team is targeting to create an equal experience on both the 360 and the PS3, so there are no limitations. For example, right now we're working on the PS3 version first, and once we've completed that we'll really know how much game there will be to fit onto the Xbox 360 discs."

215w ago - Game engine work on both the PS3 and XBox 360 versions of this hotly anticipated JRPG Final Fantasy XIII is being conducted simultaneously, Square Enix has revealed.

To quote: Speaking to VideoGamer.com (linked above) at a recent press event in London, Final Fantasy XIII producer and series legend Yoshinori Kitase said that regarding the "basic engine", work on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game will be kept on the go "simultaneously".

Final Fantasy XIII runs on the Crystal Tools game engine, an engine built by Square Enix to be used across the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and PC. It was created during development of Final Fantasy XIII as a means of stepping up from the PS2, home of the last "main series" Final Fantasy game.

The Xbox 360 version of the game was spectacularly announced during Microsoft's media briefing at E3 last year. Square Enix has said that the game will be released in Japan on the PS3 only, then released in the US and Europe simultaneously on the PS3 and Xbox 360 at a later date.

In a video shown to press late last year, Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama said: "We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later."
