Has 2008 been a great year for Sony? Yes and No, some people have already said why Sony havent had the best of years and I have to agree with them, but theres one thing I didn't do, buy an Xbox 360!
Anyway, was 2008 the year of PS3? No. Will 2009 be the year of PS3? Possibly. The following games are the ones to look out for and could make Sony leader of 2009.
Please note these are PlayStation 3 only games, some of them may not make 2009 (some of them aren’t even announced but could be announced soon) but maybe, just maybe.
In no particular order:
- Infamous
- Killzone 2
- God of War 3
- Ratchet and Clank
- The agency (also on PC)
- Gran Turismo 5

For the third time, Sony is using Final Fantasy XIII to advertise the PlayStation 3 in a TV Spot.
This time it contains footage of the Pigtails Girl for about a second. Unfortunately it isn't anything new.
The commercial also contains Little Big Planet and Resident Evil 5. The original stream is available on the Japanese PlayStation Web site. It's uploaded it to YouTube courtesy of Kitmitsu to make things easier.
According to PSX Extreme (linked above), Nomura has told a publication that we will see a battle scene in FFXIII before the end of the year. He also touched upon the benefits of the Blu-ray format for the game.
To quote: However, according to Final Fantasy XIII-net, (details translated by a NeoGAF forum member), the latest information tells us we will see gameplay footage for FFXIII before 2008 is out.
Square-Enix's Tetsuya Nomura spoke about the game in a Gemaga interview, and he says we will "see a battle scene in FFXIII before the end of the year." He also mentions the benefits of Blu-Ray for their ambitious RPG, and furthermore, they should soon release information on the game's expected-to-be-stellar voiceover cast.
For many, this game remains the most anticipated title of the new generation, and despite the delays, it remains high on everyone's priority list. It is coming to the Xbox 360 as well - PS3 owners still haven't recovered... More »
A few months ago, the gaming community had its mind set that this generation is the end of 3rd party exclusives, and there will be a big push towards multiplatform.
Over the past year, there were a lot of multiplatform games released from the older Oblivion to the more contemporary Call of Duty, and to the more recent Bioshock.
There seems to be an agreement amongst gamers that the Xbox 360 always had the better version of the game because it’s easier to program for, and of course sometimes that is true, but I also picked the above 3 examples to illustrate the point that sometimes the sheep mentality can be quite deceiving.
The PlayStation 3 version is not “always” the worst one, and sometimes it may even be the preferred version due to the free cost of PSN or the addition of Trophy system (if you prefer it over the Achievement system on your Xbox 360).
Or even better graphics (Oblivion), or extra contents (Bioshock/Eternal ... More »
Famitsu has made available some new of Final Fantasy XIII screenshots which it featured in this weeks Famitsu issue.
Below is a very rough Google translation, and check out all of the pics linked above!

IGN (linked above) has translated some new details from Famitsu about the Final Fantasy Versus XIII characters 'Noctis Lucis Caelum' and 'Stella Nox Fleuret'.
To quote: The names of the two were revealed at the Tokyo Game Show to be Noctis Lucis Caelum and Stella Nox Fleuret. Stella is described by the magazine as a princess in the Fleuret family.
She and Noctis are shown in the magazine's screens discussing their ability to "see light." This may not sound all that special at first, but in Versus XIII, it's an ability that Noctis suggests keeping quiet about. Stella appears to be more open about the matter, even asking Noctis when he gained the ability.
Wondering what the characters' names mean? Typical for the FNC series, the two names are Latin. The three parts of the hero's name mean "Night, Light, and Sky." The three parts of the heroine's name mean "Star, Darkness, and Sword." Darkness is also the meaning of Stella's country's name.

The advertisement (pictured below) which can be found in the Japanese Magazine "DeGenki PlayStation" this morning states the following:
"CLOUD MESSAGE... Coming Soon"
But what can that "CLOUD Message" be exactly?
Can it be hiding an announcement of a much-anticipated Final Fantasy 7 remake, or just a delayed promotion for Advent Children Complete which will be released next March in Japan (with a Final Fantasy XIII demo, and an exclusive Pack including the Blu-ray film and a PlayStation 3).
One has to wonder, who is the best person to announce such a remake.. Cloud, don't you think?
The latest one was Tekken 6, but it didn't start there, and with John Schappert's recent comments about him wanting MGS4 for his system, the X360, it probably won't be the last one they will try for.
However, while there are pros to this situation in that more people will be able to play these games, is there a downside to all of this?
I certainly think so, and it lies with one simple notion: That by continuing to persuade these third party companies to make the franchises that made the Playstation 2 the clear winner multiplatform and giving MS exclusive perks, Microsoft is instead hurting their own credibility and admitting that without these franchises, they can't compete as well as they would if they didn't have them.
Now, before you flame me for being a PS3 fanboy (I'm not) and dismiss this as "flame bait", hear me out on this one.
As a company, you wouldn't want to admit defeat at any point in your time. Of course, the f... More »
