Just under three months ago a preliminary USB 3.0 FAQ was published, and today both USB 3.0 final details and a date has been confirmed.

USB 3.0 is set to arrive during late 2009 or early 2010. It will be able to transfer at incredibly fast speeds of 5Gbps per second, so that's about an average sized movie every second.

To quote: USB Implementers Forum President Jeff Ravencraft let loose with some information about USB3.0, which is expected to appear late 2009/early 2010.

It'll apparently be able to transfer at blisteringly fast speeds of 5Gbps per second (roughly 600MB per second), or for media junkies that's about an average sized movie or eight average sized music albums EVERY SECOND.

In comparison USB 2.0 takes ten times as long, and we pity the fool who's trying to shift this sort of data using USB 1.1 on a knackered old la... More »

Knoxximus has found a method which allows 4GB SD cards (non-SDHC) to be fully utilized as a Wii storage card.

To quote: For the people who DON'T LIKE TO READ, THIS SOLUTION ALLOWS YOU TO USE AN OTHERWISE UNSUPPORTED SIZE SD CARD (4GB) TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL AND STILL HAVE VERY DECENT TRANSFER SPEEDS!

Okay! Now we all know that Nintendo's official line is that cards larger than 2GB will not work on the Wii...and for the most part this is true. However...what about a 4GB SD (NOT SDHC) card that PRETENDS it's a 2GB, but then over time can be slowly expanded to meet it's 4GB potential?

I scoured the net for info on how to get this to work, and now I present to you the fruits of my labor. Here is a mini FAQ on how to get 4GB SD cards to work on your Wii.

1st of all, get a hold of this non-SDHC SD card. Here is a link at NewEgg where it is $10.75.

MTV's Stephen Totilo was once not a huge fan of PlayStation Home, however with more interaction and information with the service his opinions have now changed.

While Totilo has all sorts of of ways to talk to others about Games, for those who haven't found a way to connect with like-minded folk then Home should suit them just fine.

To quote: My impression has been changed. What I hadn’t seen or had explained to me when I entered “Home” on my own those few months ago, was the function and helpfulness of the community. “Home” will be pointless if no one’s in it, if its central plazas are empty. Buser said they won’t even launch “Home” — an event scheduled for this fall — until they meet their goal to “have a kind of community to show people around.” The idea is it’s all social.

You go to an area of “Uncharted” to find out what people there think of the game or to ask for a hint. Yes, some of us would go to N... More »

From their blog, linked above: You spoke and we listened. As of today, you’ll be able to track your Warhammer Online characters in your Raptr profile. Once you enter your character(s), we automatically track your characters’ items, levels, and Renown in your feeds for all you friends to see.

So if you hit Level 40 before any of your friends, they’ll know about it. Of course, we created a custom module for your characters, so visitors to your profile page can check them out and see how you’re doing.

Timezone Support
For those of you not in the Pacific time zone, we’ve also added a timezone option that will update all charts to reflect your time zone. Simply go to your Account Settings page and select the proper time zone. Now you’ll know for sure when your friends around the world are playing Rock Band 2 at midnight in your own time zone.

We’ve also made some big behind the scenes imp... More »

Sam_Protagonist has confirmed on the official PS boards (linked above) that the online level creation mode in LittleBigPlanet will not be accessible at launch as originally planned.

According to his post, the functionality will be implemented through a post-launch patch due out at an unspecified date, however, users will still be able to create levels with friends offline and share them online.

To quote: This is correct. The ability to create with your friends online will come as part of the first major update after the game is released. Offline creating with up to 4 people on one PlayStation 3 however is available right from the get go.

Just to clarify what this means for the game, here's a few more FAQs -

Is online create in the game from launch?
No it's not, however it will be included in the first game update after launch. We're working on making this available as quickly as possible, but want to make sure it's right... More »

The Sony Video Store on the PlayStation Network is filled with a good selection of movies, and you can't beat the convenience of renting or even buying movies from your couch and watching them on your big screen with your PlayStation 3.

Renting movies is a joy on the system, although it would be nice to have longer than 24 hours to watch the content, but what happens when you buy a movie? As one Ars reader found out, and Sony confirmed for us, you have to be careful about what happens to your system once it's filled with video content: you have one download, one redownload, and that's it.

Noise, a forum-goer, sent out a warning after he deleted some video content to make room on his hard drive and then found he couldn't redownload the content. The PlayStation 3 support page is perfectly clear on this matter. "Purchased content can be downloaded to ... More »
