Video: Dragon's Crown for PS3, PS Vita Melts Faces August 6, 2013

50°
75w ago - Atlus PR Manager John Hardin posted up a video today announcing that Dragon's Crown for both PS3 and PS Vita platforms will be melting faces this August 6, 2013.

To quote: Dragon's Crown has had a long development process - especially for those of you who remember E3 2011 when Ignition first mentioned the game.

But now ATLUS and Odin Sphere developer Vanillaware are putting a stake in the ground for August 6th, 2013. If you're not familiar with Dragon's Crown, it's a 2D multiplayer action beat-em-up exclusive to the PS3 and PS Vita that features four-person co-op play, six character classes, skills that can be leveled up, and all the dungeon-exploring, orc-slapping, treasure-seeking action you can shake a magical staff at.

If you're not familiar with the date August 6th, please consult a calendar.

One of the reasons development took so long is the painstaking detail that makes every character, background or combat animation worthy of the artistic vision of Vanillaware. The intricacies in the artwork are immediately noticeable on both the PS3 and PS Vita versions.

Speaking of, we're working right now on making sure that gamers can take their saved games with them on the Vita. So while Vita adventurers can't party up with PlayStation dungeoneers, it doesn't...

161w ago - Lexis Numerique's Djamil Kemal has posted up some fresh Amy: The Faces of Horror PlayStation 3 video footage today for fans below!

To quote: If you've been following the development of Amy, you probably know that we're trying to make a unique survival-horror game for PSN.

We're working hard to bring a different gameplay based on a deep interaction between Lana, a young woman who is the lead character, and Amy, an eight year-old child, set in a horrific environment. Soon, we'll give you many more details on some of the key elements of the gameplay.

But for now, we wanted to show you that, even for a downloadable game, we're trying our best to bring you real flesh-and-blood characters. You can meet two of them in the new videos below.

First, a quick primer on the world of Amy. It's 2035, and global warming has intensified beyond mankind's control.

Floods, hurricanes, and other natural disasters are claiming lives with increasing regularity.

And in Silver City, the site of a recent comet impact, a mysterious viral outbreak has begun transforming a large percentage of the populace into horrific monstrosities. This is the final straw for Father John, a priest in Silver City: He's convinced that the outbrerak...

Sony Faces Heat from Game Publishers to Cut PlayStation 3 Price

250°
289w ago - Sony Corp. is under pressure from video game publishers to cut the price of the PlayStation 3 console, or risk seeing more development funds shift to Nintendo Co.'s Wii.

To quote: PS3 sales in the next 12 months are likely to total 14 million, compared with 28 million Wiis and 9.7 million Xbox 360s, according to the Daiwa Institute of Research, a Tokyo-based researcher and consultant.

Price cuts have an immediate impact.

Sony reduced the PS3 price from $499.99 in October 2007 and sales more than doubled in the next month. In September, Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft released its lowest-priced Xbox 360, at $199.99. The company almost doubled Sony's U.S. shipments from October to January after trailing PS3 in the prior three months, NPD data show.

"Anytime a console manufacturer reduces the price, software publishers benefit," Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer of Ubisoft Entertainment SA, Europe's largest video-game maker, said in an e-mail.

Game makers now focus development in two directions: one for the top-selling Wii and the other for Xbox 360, PS3 and personal computers.

Titles for Microsoft and Sony are typically...

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed faces development trouble

50°
327w ago - LucasArts have taken the extrordinary step of risking one of its most highly anticipated titles yet by laying off staff from the development team of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

An ex member of the crack Jedi programming troupe has revealved that member of the team were released from their contracts before the title had wrapped up. He went on to say that the current team size was insufficient to handle the remaining work.

LucasArts has been qouted as towing the familiar company line around the importance of internal development, but you would have to question their commitment in the wake of this news.

The only hope looks to be through outsourced help. If this is the case, the last parts of the game will be completed by completely new people, with no history in the title. The Star Wars franchise has already suffered a credibility blow with the inclusion of characters in the upcoming Soul Calibre title. Although the majority of Unleashed has been completed this could spell bad news for a successful, bug free release.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is slated for release on September 16th.

Square Enix Kicks Faces: No E3 Demo At All

200°
329w ago - Oh, another day and another hour. This time we debunk a rumor. The latest one that just smashed through the window of hopes is the teary eyed rumor that there will be a demo for Final Fantasy XIII to display engine goodies for the highly anticipated RPG that PS3 people are fond of and 360 people are drooling to have.

Well, stop hoping and praying. Not answered in other words. Here's what Square Enix's NA PR has to say:

"We have no plans whatsoever to intro a playable demo or any demo at E3 on the FFXIII project."

Okay okay. Hold back the gushing tears of agony. So there won't be any playable demo this year at E3. Does it really surprise anyone? But one thing is for sure, you can all still keep hoping that some form of FFXIII will show up at E3.
