A few weeks ago, I made my way to Ubisoft's Montreal studio to interview a pair of team members working on the latest Prince of Persia, and it turned out to be one of those interviews where we kept talking longer than we probably should have.

Below is an excerpt from that interview as follows:

1UP: Were you guys disappointed when those first couple of screenshots leaked out and everyone assumed it was going to be a two-player game?

BM: [Laughs] Disappointed? No, it was to be expected, really. I think if you see two characters on the screen, some people are going to assume one of their friends can control one of those two characters. So it didn't really disappoint me to see people saying, "Oh, oh, I think this is going to be a co-op game."

But we really haven't had much negative backlash about the fact that it's single-player. I've been reading the forums, I get e-mails, I get Facebook messages and that sort of stuff, and no one ever... More »

Per SackBoy of the PlayStation Blog (or SackBoy2SavePluto via YouTube :p) today:

My fellow Americans,

It’s me... SackBoy! Now that you can go pickup LittleBigPlanet in your local retailer, I can take on other matters that are important to me other than playing, creating and sharing! So I wanted to take this opportunity to bring your attention to a worthwhile cause.

Well, as you know it’s election season here and it’s not all about Democrats and Republicans. There are bigger issues going on and I need YOU to get involved!

Back in 2006, the International Astronomical Union declassified Pluto, our solar system’s littlest big planet, from a real planet to a dwarf planet. This is a travesty and we must stand together to bring Pluto back to the solar system as the LittleBigPlanet. So join me, Sa... More »

While it may have been delayed almost to the point of silliness, anticipation is still quite high for PlayStation Home, Sony's trump card in the online gaming stakes.

Offering much more of a community approach than it's counter-parts, Home is full of different levels of customization which will allow you to live with your friends in a virtual world of sorts, where you'll be able to hang out and easily launch into the game of your choice with the mere touch of a button, among other things.

At our recent trip to PlayStation Day, we got a chance to play the game for a bit, and we have to say that the amount of detail is impressive. What we found during our short time with Home is that on one level, it's very simple as to not scare off the casual folk, but has many elements that will take some exploration to really get a grasp on.

Wandering around and chatting is certainly easy enough to do, but the experience is really a 'you get out of it what yo... More »

EA and Tiburon have set the bar high this year with Madden NFL 09, providing not only 60fps gameplay for the PlayStation 3 platform but rethinking and improving much of their game mechanics and A.I. system. For all the Madden fans out there, get excited, because this year’s edition will be worth every penny of your hard earned cash.

To begin, when players start the game up for the first time, instead of the usual game menu, they will be greeted by John Madden in a holographic training session. There are 12 tests with up to three difficulties which will help determine the player’s skill level.

These tests range from passing and running the ball to special teams. Depending on the score of each test, the game will automatically assign a curve that is adaptive to the player’s play style allowing for a more competitive CPU. This new difficulty will show up as “My Skill” in the settings menu and players may adjust aspects of the computer difficulty if the... More »

Despite frequent delays to flagship products such as the PlayStation 3 and PlayTV, Sony Computer Entertainment has long emphasised its commitment to Europe.

The console manufacturer made a huge splash last year at the Leipzig Game Convention -the continent's biggest trade show- when it announced a plethora of new products such as the Go!Cam PSP camera and the Go!Explore GPS navigation system.

Today, the Japanese electronics firm will return to Europe for a new event in London, with SCE president Kaz Hirai and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves both in attendance.

The event at the indigO2 -part of what was once the Millennium Dome- features an extensive press conference hosted by Reeves and Kirai that GameSpot UK will be liveblogging, followed by an opportunity for the press to sample products from Sony's 2008 lineup. No specific games from Sony's roster have been confirmed, although European-developed Little... More »

Last week, Microsoft announced the release of PopFly, a simple program that allows users to create games without the need to know any code.

Taking a number of genres as a foundation, PopFly offers a range of templates based on classic arcade games, upon which you can import your own characters, backgrounds, etc.

Once done, the games can then be hosted, on stuff like Web sites, blogs, Facebook pages or even your Vista sidebar. It' Silverlight-only, which is a slight hassle, and is fairly basic, but hey, who said everything on this world had to be perfect?

Microsoft Corp. late Thursday was leaning toward going hostile in its pursuit of Yahoo Inc., according to people familiar with the matter, with an announcement likely Friday.

But the people cautioned that the situation was fluid as discussions continued and said the software company could change tack before announcing its decision. Microsoft declined to comment on its plans.

In an interview earlier Thursday, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer declined to indicate Microsoft's decision and wouldn't say when the company would make a decision public. "With the right circumstances it'll happen. Without the right circumstances it won't happen," he said.

Price will be a key factor if Microsoft does take a hostile approach to Yahoo, which it made an unsolicited offer for in January. Microsoft's original cash-and-stock offer, which Yahoo has said undervalues it, was valued at $29.48 a share as of 4 p.m. Nasdaq Stock Market composite trading Thu... More »
