PS3 Developer JaicraB on Special Execution Mode WIP

800°
188w ago - Today Spanish PS3 developer JaicraB has posted an update on his blog (linked above) of what appears to be a PS3 special execution mode WIP.

With it, he may be able to get the PS3 into service mode (possibly for downgrading and other delightful things) so let us hail him and hope there is more to come for us all.

For those who missed it, a few months back RichDevX also noted some progress in this area using a PSGroove Payload for PS3 Service Mode.

Some pictures are posted below, and to quote roughly translated:

"Look at this...., It seems not only egocentrics know how to do things and then sell their products.

A gift for DemonHades, Happy birthday to you !"

Sony Exec Reveals Bravia Internet Video Link Coming to PS3

400°
233w ago - In a recent [Register or Login to view links], COO and President of Sony Electronics USA Stan Glasgow revealed that Bravia Internet Video Link is coming to the PS3 entertainment system.

The free HD Internet video streaming service gives users content from providers such as YouTube, AOL LLC, Yahoo Inc, Amazon, Netflix and more.

Although no specific details are available about it at the moment, Glasgow did confirm that the PlayStation 3 will get support for the Bravia Internet Video Link service in addition to other video streaming services in the near future.

To quote: "There's no indication if this will or won't make its way beyond the US border but we can always hope.

More streaming video services would definitely be welcome on the PS3, but assuming you can view this website you can probably do everything this will promise to do but on your PC."

EA Exec Predicts PlayStation 3.5 Before Arrival of PlayStation 4

500°
254w ago - An executive at Electronic Arts has stated that he expects to see a PlayStation 3.5 before the PlayStation 4 console's arrival.

Additionally, he expects the next version of the Xbox 360 to go 'half way' as well at Xbox 560 versus 720.

To quote: Rich Hilleman, Chief Creative Officer at EA, said: "I expect we'll see a PlayStation 3.5 before we see a PlayStation 4, and an Xbox 560 before we see an Xbox 720."

Hilleman's comments - made at a recent gaming event in the US, according to website Venturebeat - suggest that Sony and Microsoft will try to update their consoles in stages, rather than replace existing models with brand new ones.

The incorporation of motion-capture gaming is likely to drive this process. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer recently suggested the company's 'Project Natal' motion-capture system will debut next year in a new Xbox 360.

Microsoft Exec Not Concerned About PS3 Slim nor PS3 Price Cuts

250°
256w ago - Microsoft's XBox Exec Chris Lewis has said that a PS3 Slim announcement or possible PS3 price drop from Sony at Gamescom next week won't affect its plans, which are now widely expected to include a price drop of their own.

He goes on to say the XBox 360 is in a good place as industry braces for a double price cut.

To quote: "We are in a good place in terms of the value we offer," the Xbox EMEA VP told MCV.

"We have a plan and a rhythm we are marching to - and we won't be knocked off that cadence in terms of what the opposition might do."

Sony is believed to be preparing to unveil its brand new PS3 Slim next Tuesday at the Gamescom show in Germany.

In addition, MCV has been led to believe that Microsoft will be countering Sony's move with a price cut of its own - most likely scrapping the Pro Xbox 360 SKU and dropping the Elite 360 by £60 to £169.99.
