VidZone PS3 to Launch EMI Music and New 1.15 Software Update

214w ago - Today Head of Production Ben Creasey has announced that VidZone PS3 will be getting both faster and better as they prepare to launch EMI Music alongside a new version 1.15 software update.

To quote: We can exclusively announce that EMI Music has joined [Register or Login to view links] and there is a new software update which means VidZone is faster and better than ever before.

VidZone welcomes EMI Music which has a catalogue of over 8,000 music videos from fantastic artists including Coldplay, Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, Iron Maiden, David Guetta, David Bowie, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and many more.

Check out your EMI cloud of all the acts everyone on this blog has requested since VidZone launched in June 2009 - yes, you can now access all these acts!

Before launching EMI, we wanted to ensure VidZone was better and faster so you could party harder. Here are some top features of VidZone 1.15 - thanks to all at SCEE for their help on this release:

Labels deny deals on file sharing

347w ago - Three major record labels have denied signing deals allowing their music to feature on a new file-sharing service offering unlimited free downloads.

The service, Qtrax, boasted it would carry up to 30 million tracks from "all the major labels".

But Warner, EMI and Universal all say they have not licensed their music.

Qtrax said it expected an agreement to be reached with Warner and that terms had been agreed with the others even if deals had not been formally signed.

Discussions ongoing

Qtrax aims to allow users to download music from the major labels for free, with advertising revenue used to pay licensing fees.

But Warner says it "has not authorised the use of our content on Qtrax's recently-announced service".

And Universal and EMI said discussions with Qtrax were still ongoing but that licensing deals were not in place.

A spokesman for Sony BMG - the other "big four" record label - was not available for comment.

Qtrax president Allan Klepfisz said that, while a deal with Warner had not been signed, he expected terms to be agreed "shortly".
