To quote: So, we're indie developers. By and large, indie folk don't really do "story" the same way larger developers do... it's usually more minimalistic, and for lack of a better word, "artsy". Which is cool! There's space in the gaming sphere for everything, even whatever Suda 51's up to these days.

Still, we don't think "indie" and "complex narrative with well-developed characters and realistic dialogue" are mutually exclusive.

The voice command gameplay of There Came an Echo and its script were developed in conjunction with one another - the story is an integral part of the experience, not something tacked on after the fact.

The four members of your squadron aren't mindless military drones, but real people with imperfections, desires, and fears. And snark. They're pretty snarky.





And voice acting. If you've got voice acting, it better be good, or it's going to completely ruin the experience. Luckily, we're located in Hollywood, and we happen to know some people who are very good at saying things we tell...

To quote: One of the most pleasant surprises of E3 week earlier this month was bumping into Jamie Gray Hyder in the halls. Killzone fans should find that name familiar - she played one of Shadow Fall's stand-out characters: half-Vektan/half-Helghast intelligence operative Echo.

With co-op expansion Intercept out this week on PS4, we took the opportunity to sit down for a quick chat with the actress (who you might also recognize from her time on True Blood, as werewolf Danielle) and Game Director Steven ter Heide.

How did you first get involved with Killzone Shadow Fall?

Jamie Gray Hyder: I auditioned like I would for film or TV. I did my scene knowing I needed to focus on physicality - they called me back and it turned out we were on the same page about what Echo was going to be, so we got to work.

Steven ter Heide: The filming was out in LA and the director we hooked up with said, "We've had this amazing performance. Unfortunately she's under the weather but she really wants the part and we think she's perfect."

The character is strong - she has to stand up to the protagonist, but at the same time needs...

To quote: Hey, PlayStation fans! Quick backstory: we were making this game, and market research showed us that people who own PS4s like games.

After extensive trend analysis and writing numbers down on paper in the hopes of making it look like we knew basic mathematics, we made the executive decision to bring our title, There Came an Echo, over to the Sony side of town. There's a trailer above, which you should probably watch, but if you didn't, it's okay, we're cool.

There Came an Echo is, if you'll pardon the torrent of hyphens, a voice-controlled squad-based real-time strategy game. You don't play directly as the soldiers in the field, but rather as the tactical commander, issuing strategic orders via headset.

Ever felt annoyed when someone in your earpiece told you what to do in a blockbuster, AAA first-person shooter? Well, now, you're the someone in the earpiece. Some direct influences on the game include X-COM: Enemy Unknown and Tom Clancy's EndWar.

Below are the details, to quote: As we announced earlier this month, we've secured the amazing talents of David Harewood and Jamie Gray Hyder to portray two key characters from Killzone: Shadow Fall - VSA director Sinclair and Helghast intelligence operative Echo.

But who exactly are Sinclair and Echo, and how did their character designs come about? We asked Assistant Art Director Dan Calvert to shed some light on these enigmatic characters.

PlayStation.Blog: Who are Sinclair and Echo, and what roles do they play in KZ:SF?

Dan Calvert: Sinclair is the head of the Vektan Security Agency - his job is to make sure the balance of power favors Vekta without escalating the cold war into open conflict. Part spymaster - part diplomat, and with a shrewd strategic mind, he is Lucas' direct CO and mentor.

Like Lucas, Echo is an elite operative tasked to cross the wall, and her mission puts them on a collision course. She is extremely dangerous; an equal but opposite reflection of the player character.
