Bringing Killzone Shadow Fall Heroine Echo to Life - PS4 Interview

50°
9w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton shared a PS4 interview today on bringing the Killzone Shadow Fall Heroine Echo to life below.

To quote: One of the most pleasant surprises of E3 week earlier this month was bumping into Jamie Gray Hyder in the halls. Killzone fans should find that name familiar - she played one of Shadow Fall's stand-out characters: half-Vektan/half-Helghast intelligence operative Echo.

With co-op expansion Intercept out this week on PS4, we took the opportunity to sit down for a quick chat with the actress (who you might also recognize from her time on True Blood, as werewolf Danielle) and Game Director Steven ter Heide.

How did you first get involved with Killzone Shadow Fall?

Jamie Gray Hyder: I auditioned like I would for film or TV. I did my scene knowing I needed to focus on physicality - they called me back and it turned out we were on the same page about what Echo was going to be, so we got to work.

Steven ter Heide: The filming was out in LA and the director we hooked up with said, "We've had this amazing performance. Unfortunately she's under the weather but she really wants the part and we think she's perfect."

The character is strong - she has to stand up to the protagonist, but at the same time needs...

Video: There Came an Echo: Voice-controlled Strategy on PS4

20w ago - Iridium Studios Lead Designer Jason Wishnov shared a video today spotlighting There Came an Echo, a voice-controlled strategy game on PS4.

To quote: Hey, PlayStation fans! Quick backstory: we were making this game, and market research showed us that people who own PS4s like games.

After extensive trend analysis and writing numbers down on paper in the hopes of making it look like we knew basic mathematics, we made the executive decision to bring our title, There Came an Echo, over to the Sony side of town. There's a trailer above, which you should probably watch, but if you didn't, it's okay, we're cool.

There Came an Echo is, if you'll pardon the torrent of hyphens, a voice-controlled squad-based real-time strategy game. You don't play directly as the soldiers in the field, but rather as the tactical commander, issuing strategic orders via headset.

Ever felt annoyed when someone in your earpiece told you what to do in a blockbuster, AAA first-person shooter? Well, now, you're the someone in the earpiece. Some direct influences on the game include X-COM: Enemy Unknown and Tom Clancy's EndWar.

A lot of you might feel a little antsy about voice recognition. And we understand! But we'd...

Killzone: Shadow Fall PS4 Q&A: Creating Echo and Sinclair

250°
57w ago - Killzone Community Editor Victor Zuylen made available a Killzone: Shadow Fall PS4 Q&A today detailing the creation of Echo and Sinclair.

Below are the details, to quote: As we announced earlier this month, we've secured the amazing talents of David Harewood and Jamie Gray Hyder to portray two key characters from Killzone: Shadow Fall - VSA director Sinclair and Helghast intelligence operative Echo.

But who exactly are Sinclair and Echo, and how did their character designs come about? We asked Assistant Art Director Dan Calvert to shed some light on these enigmatic characters.

PlayStation.Blog: Who are Sinclair and Echo, and what roles do they play in KZ:SF?

Dan Calvert: Sinclair is the head of the Vektan Security Agency - his job is to make sure the balance of power favors Vekta without escalating the cold war into open conflict. Part spymaster - part diplomat, and with a shrewd strategic mind, he is Lucas' direct CO and mentor.

Like Lucas, Echo is an elite operative tasked to cross the wall, and her mission puts them on a collision course. She is extremely dangerous; an equal but opposite reflection of the player character.

PSB: How did the design of these characters evolve?

DC: In order to get stronger...

50°
138w ago - Creat Studios Marketing Coordinator Rob Banahan has confirmed that starting tomorrow Mecho Wars will be available on PS3 through PSN, and will be free for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

To quote: I speak for the whole team when I say that we are incredibly excited about our latest game to hit PSN, the minis title Mecho Wars for $4.99.

Based on the characters, world, and distinctive visual style crafted by [Register or Login to view links], Mecho Wars is a turn-based strategy game where you command your troops to expand into enemy territory, control and collect resources, and conquer your enemy's structures.

The story of Mecho Wars details the rise of the Winged Crusade in the distant land of Divination Deserts, in a war between the Winged Crusade and the Landians. This is not your typical desert: there is plenty of water that separates land masses.

To sustain your army, you'll need to capture factories to expand your maximum army support, take over cities to earn gold from the rich economic hubs, and defeat the enemy by capturing their HQ building while simultaneously defending your own.

Don't forget strategic unit composition and troop positioning as each unit type has its own strengths and weaknesses. Mecho Wars features a day/night...

Bulletstorm is Now Out on PS3: Tips to Play Like a Pro in Echoes

100°
183w ago - Game Designer and Community Manager Arcade Berg at People Can Fly has announced today that Bulletstorm is now out on PS3, and he shared some tips to play like a pro in echoes!

To quote: Bulletstorm is out now on PS3! Its Echoes mode challenges you to complete levels using the most creative kills possible. Here's a head start to a high score!

Layering Skillshots

Try and execute as many different Skillshots as possible on every single enemy. A lot of the Skillshots can be stacked with other ones. For example, you can get more skillpoints out of any enemy if he's on fire when you finish him off - this will give you +50sp for the "Afterburner" skillshot.

You could also do this while affected by Nom Juice, giving you another +50sp for the "Intoxicated" skillshot, and another +50sp if the enemy is also being affected by Puffball gas at the same time (the "Antidote" skillshot) - there are a ton of different possibilities. Experiment!

New Bonus

Every time you perform a new skillshot for the first time in an Echo, the skillpoints you earn for it will be multiplied x5. Execute as many different Skillshots as you possibly can to take advantage of this!

Master the Peacemaker Carbine

The trusty...
