Critter Crunch and Everyday Shooter on Sale Today for $0.99 Each

50°
39w ago - Everyday Shooter Creator Jonathan Mak announced today that Critter Crunch and Everyday Shooter are on sale today for $0.99 each.

To quote: This week, Toronto-based developers (and good friends) Queasy Games & Capy are putting their classic PSN titles on sale.

To mark this occasion, Jon decided to dust off the actual guitar used to create the tunes in Everyday Shooter and jam out the games' first track, alongside our cuddly orange friend from Critter Crunch.

Everyday Shooter & Critter Crunch may be markedly different games that took alternate paths onto the PlayStation Store, but they share a lot in common. Here's a little bit about why these games are important to their creators/teams:

Five years ago I released my first game, Everyday Shooter, in which you play through an album of musical shmups, where every sound effect is a guitar riff or note harmonizing over an all-guitar soundtrack. So as you play the game, it feels like you're jamming along with the music. Each level/song/track has a different vibe, look, sound and gameplay mechanic - kind of like how songs on an album flow through different moods.

At least that's what it is for most people. In actuality the game was built on ten years'...

Starhawk Private PS3 Beta Q&A Detailed: Reaching for the Stars

100°
123w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has shared Q&A details today on the Starhawk private PS3 Beta as part of an interview below.

To quote: At this very moment, a small group of lucky testers are putting the Starhawk Private Beta through its paces. During last week's PlayStation holiday showcase for New York City media, I had a chance to go hands-on with the beta.

But I wanted to learn more about the beta's reception among the diehard Warhawk community, so I chatted with Senior Producer Harvard Bonin to learn some key findings from the beta: the most popular weapons and vehicles, the sneakiest tactics, and what beta players can expect next.

PlayStation.Blog: Obviously, there's a private beta going on right now. What have been some of the key learnings?

Oh, boy. There have been too many to name here, but one of the key learnings has been how closely we need to listen to hardcore Warhawk players. We made some changes to the flight controls that they reacted to negatively. We're now in the process of addressing that, and it's only because of the beta that we realized. Without a beta, we have no way to do that.

We've also seen a lot of strategies we couldn't have anticipated. The Build & Battle configurations are pretty interesting, people placing...

Video: Surviving the Horror of Amy PS3: Salvation is Within Reach

200°
129w ago - Today Djamil Kemal at Lexis Numerique has shared some PS3 video footage dubbed Surviving the Horror of Amy: Salvation is Within Reach.

To quote: PlayStation fans have been following the development of AMY for some time now and have been giving us tremendous support - we sincerely thank you for that.

Others are just discovering this original upcoming PSN survival-horror game for the first time. What none of you have seen is the actual gameplay that lies at the heart of the game: the very unique relationship between Amy and Lana, our lead character.

When you mention 'a very unique relationship' in a video game, it may bring to mind ICO, a game that many of us consider a milestone in video game history.

The recent re-release of the HD version by PlayStation brought back many memories for us. The first time you finished ICO, what remained was great emotional depth and a rare feeling of empathy for Yorda, the young woman you try to protect.

Before playing ICO, the simple idea of protecting a non-playable character seemed tedious and dull. And yet, in ICO, you never had the feeling of doing a long escort mission. You really wanted to protect her.

In Amy, we didn't try to ape...

Sony Chief Information Security Officer Warns of Network Breach

700°
132w ago - Today Sony's SVP and PSN Chief Information Security Officer Philip Reitinger has issued an official warning that PlayStation Network security appears to once again be breached.

To quote: We want to let you know that we have detected attempts on Sony Entertainment Network, PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment ("Networks") services to test a massive set of sign-in IDs and passwords against our network database.

These attempts appear to include a large amount of data obtained from one or more compromised lists from other companies, sites or other sources.

In this case, given that the data tested against our network consisted of sign-in ID-password pairs, and that the overwhelming majority of the pairs resulted in failed matching attempts, it is likely the data came from another source and not from our Networks. We have taken steps to mitigate the activity.

Less than one tenth of one percent (0.1%) of our PSN, SEN and SOE audience may have been affected. There were approximately 93,000 accounts globally (PSN/SEN: approximately 60,000 accounts; SOE: approximately 33,000) where the attempts succeeded in verifying those accounts' valid sign-in IDs and passwords, and we have temporarily locked these accounts.

Only a small fraction of these 93,000 accounts...
