Q&A With PS3 GT Academy 2009 Winner Lucas Ordonez

100°
246w ago - Today Sony's European Brand Manager Penrose Tackie has shared a Q&A interview with PS3 GT Academy 2009 Winner Lucas Ordonez, as follows:

With the launch of the new GT Academy on December 17, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to grab last year's winner for a bit of a Q and A. Lucas Ordonez was a 23-year-old MBA student in Madrid when he heard about GT Academy in May, 2008.

As a motor sport fanatic, Lucas went out and bought himself a copy of GT5 Prologue and set to work. His dedication paid dividends when he won through to Spain's national finals and then into the GT Academy itself at Silverstone. As a result, he'll be mentoring next year's winner at the GT Academy 2010.

Not only was Lucas kind enough to answer the questions below, but he'll also be available in the comments to respond to any other queries you have.

How did you first get involved with GT Academy?

I was with some friends and we were looking through a motor sport magazine and I saw an advert from PlayStation and Nissan for GT Academy. I have always been a big motor sport fan and had a little bit of racing experience. I thought if I can train myself to be quick on Gran Turismo then I might have a chance.

"I already had a PS3TM, but I went straight...

PS3 and XBox 360 FFXIII Engine Work Done Simultaneously

350°
278w ago - Game engine work on both the PS3 and XBox 360 versions of this hotly anticipated JRPG Final Fantasy XIII is being conducted simultaneously, Square Enix has revealed.

To quote: Speaking to VideoGamer.com (linked above) at a recent press event in London, Final Fantasy XIII producer and series legend Yoshinori Kitase said that regarding the "basic engine", work on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game will be kept on the go "simultaneously".

Final Fantasy XIII runs on the Crystal Tools game engine, an engine built by Square Enix to be used across the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and PC. It was created during development of Final Fantasy XIII as a means of stepping up from the PS2, home of the last "main series" Final Fantasy game.

The Xbox 360 version of the game was spectacularly announced during Microsoft's media briefing at E3 last year. Square Enix has said that the game will be released in Japan on the PS3 only, then released in the US and Europe simultaneously on the PS3 and Xbox 360 at a later date.

In a video shown to press late last year, Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama said: "We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later."

Some gamers have expressed concern over the prospect of the Western release...

Has Rockstar abandoned the PSP?

50°
312w ago - A funny thing happened a couple of months ago. After completing the PSP version of God of War, developer Ready At Dawn Studios posted a matter-of-fact news story on their site about how they were packing up their dev kits and sending them back to Sony.

The company behind one of the must-play games on the PSP was giving up on the system completely. Around the same time, Sony itself announced a new partnership program where universities could buy up PSP and PS2 development kits on the cheap. It would seem that Ready At Dawn isn't the only studio giving up on the system.

Presumably, there is an assembly line at Sony headquarters where the old dev kits are repackaged for uni students. Maybe they throw in some typical student freebie favourites in the box, like free condoms, and booklets about doing drugs responsibly.

At any rate, this phase-out is already being felt at retail. There are fewer and fewer new PSP and PS2 games going on sale. Or in the case of the PS2, at least, fewer titles any self-respecting gamer would play. The line-up for both systems at E3 was pitiful – developers are abandoning Sony's older systems. And now Rockstar is joining the club. This iconoclastic software house has been a huge supporter of the PSP, bringing hit games...
