264w ago - Devil May Cry 4 producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi said back at E3 2007 that he wanted to make Devil May Cry 5 if Capcom let him.

This week Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto announced in a press release that Capcom's fiscal year 2008 sales increased to over 83 billion Yen ($806 million), in part thanks to Devil May Cry 4's record sales of over 2 million units worldwide since its early February 2008 release, making it the fastest selling Devil May Cry game so far and taking the entire series from 7 to 9 million sold.

It now seems all but certain Capcom wants a sequel with Mr. Tsujimoto closing off the PR by saying "We hope to continue meeting and exceeding the expectations of gamers with our dedication to developing solid titles for the best gaming platforms available."

280w ago - Capcom US has responded to CVG's report yesterday that PS3 Devil May Cry 4 forces gamers to sit through a mandatory 21 minute install time - with little improvement to load times there after.

Just to be sure, we timed the 5GB install process (which you can't opt-out of) on our PS3 retail version and it clocked in at 21 minutes, 41 seconds.

After installation, we timed DMC4's load times to be only one or two seconds shy of those in the 360 counterpart. Hardly worth sitting through 21 minutes of concept art, then.

Capcom community man Chris Kramer disagrees: "It's true: the first time you drop your DMC4 Blu-ray disc into your PS3 tray, you're going to be treated to an exciting 22 - 25 minute load process as the disc spins a few gigs of data onto your hard drive," he admits.

"If you don't want to watch the 'Previously, on Devil May Cry...' portion of the install process, go make a sandwich and grab a soda, then come on back," Kramer joked. "You're going to be spending some serious time with this game, and we don't want you going hungry. Low blood sugar will make you dizzy and you'll need to be focused like an Alan Parsons Project to defeat the enemies in this game.

284w ago - Activision, the local distributor of Capcom, has confirmed that Devil May Cry 4 will go on sale in Australia on February 7. The release will be simultaneous across PC ('Games for Windows'), PS3, and Xbox 360.

While the release date has been perfectly coordinated, the same can not be said for the price. DMC4 will retail for $79.95 on PC, $99.95 on 360, and $109.95 on PS3 - a full ten smackers more.

For Xbox 360 owners having trouble imagining how PS3 owners feel about this, take a look at the picture of Banjo Paterson on the $10 bill. The legendary poet's morbid despair will be felt across the land as he is unfairly whisked from gamers' wallets.

This news joins a disturbing trend. We already know that GTA will cost more on PS3; each new price disparity announcement suggests the problem is systemic.

But why is it so? One possibility is that Sony charges a higher licensing cost per unit sold than Microsoft. Another is that Blu-ray discs cost significantly more to manufacture than DVDs. Though as we've already established, most PS3 games don't even need the format's additional storage space.

A telling example: Devil May Cry 4 itself. All the PS3 preview code Activision has sent us has been on DVD discs.
