Atlus: Download Demon's Souls for PlayStation 3 on PSN Tuesday

250°
98w ago - Atlus Editor Nich Maragos has invited fans to download Demon's Souls for PlayStation 3 on PSN this coming Tuesday.

Below are the details, to quote: A lot of unusual things go on here at ATLUS, and as a publisher known for delivering great JRPG content, Demon's Souls represented something unique even for us: runaway mainstream success.

In the years since its release, Demon's Souls went far above and beyond our usual humble offerings, partly because it's such a special game. It's a Japanese-developed RPG, made by From Software, but it has a distinctly Western look and feel in the weight of its movements and the ruthlessness of its enemies and environments.

It's a single-player title, but it has a strong online component unlike anything that came before it, where you can summon other players as friendly ghosts to give you a hand, or be invaded by hostile marauders without warning.

Its unsparing difficulty seemed to mark it as destined to be appreciated only by a select few, yet it's been universally lauded (and awarded Game of the Year by a few, including GameSpot) and remains our highest-selling title ever.

As a thank you to the fans who have supported it this far and kept the servers burning, we're excited to announce that Demon's Souls will...

Dark Souls Hits PlayStation 3 Today, Meet Its Darkest Demons

50°
163w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has revealed some of the darkest demons in Dark Souls, which will officially be hitting the PlayStation 3 entertainment system today!

To quote: "All the monsters I design, from Demon's Souls to Dark Souls, are beautiful to me no matter how gruesome their appearance."

Dark Souls Director Hidetaka Miyazaki shared this bit of insight with me earlier this year in an interview and the quote has bounced through my brain for more than six months.

Since then, I've been wanting to get a closer look at the game's stunning creature designs, all of which are plucked from the further reaches of Miyazaki's fevered imagination.

Luckily, today's the day. For the viewing pleasure of readers, From Software and Namco Bandai have collected a host of rare concept artwork accompanied by design notes from Miyazaki himself. Miyazaki also wanted to pass along a greeting just for readers:

"I am hoping all of you experience meaningful deaths many times in the game. I know that the game is challenging, but I want you to keep trying to overcome any difficulty you face in the game. And please feel a great sense of achievement when overcoming a difficulty!"

Video: Demon's Souls PS3 Dynamic Theme: The Nexus

300°
262w ago - A few months ago we saw some videos of the available PS3 Dynamic / Animated Themes in action, and today another has been added to Sony's library.

Below is a video of the new Demon's Souls PS3 Dynamic Theme: The Nexus which is currently available on Japanese PSN Store for 200 yen.

To quote: "Sony's Demon's Souls dynamic theme shows the Maiden in Black in an empty Nexus, perhaps waiting for you to join her.

Currently, the theme is only available on Japan's PlayStation Store and it costs 200 yen ($2.25).

Demon's Souls has been pretty successful in North America so I imagine Atlus or Sony will release this theme here too."

Video: Demon's Souls PS3 Video Walkthrough - Part Two

100°
269w ago - Today Atlus' Manager of Public Relations and Sales Aram Jabbari has posted the second part of their Demon's Souls PS3 video walkthrough series on the PlayStation Blog.

To quote: AtlusA.R.A.M. here with part two of our Demon's Souls video walkthrough series. While our first part served primarily as an introduction to the game for newcomers, focusing on basics, this second video dives headlong into the most significant, most discussed, most acclaimed feature in the upcoming PlayStation 3-exclusive action RPG: online functionality.

Where most games offer multiplayer as a separate mode, something detached from the main experience, Demon's Souls takes the single-player games from online PS3 owners across the country, treats them as individual worlds in an interconnected universe, and allows the worlds to bridge from time to time, leading to some exciting cooperative and competitive interaction between players, in addition to the awesome messaging and bloodstain features.

There's never really been a gaming experience quite like Demon's Souls, and we're excited to be able to show you, in detail, exactly why that's the case. Demon's Souls releases on October 6 in two flavors: standard ($59.99) and deluxe ($69.99).
