After unveiling the first details nearly two weeks ago of FROM Software's Demon's Souls, PS3FanBoy has now made available a hands-on review from this year's Tokyo Game Show as follows:
Immediately the demo begins and I'm confronted by a character customization screen, allowing me to change various aspects of my appearance. I didn't tinker, mostly because I wasn't sure what did what thanks to the language barrier.
Customizing my appearance would've been a waste of time anyway, as the camera sits behind the character for the majority of the time and his face is hidden by a large medieval helmet.
The gameplay starts in a courtyard in front of a large castle. A small fountain lies ahead, slowing down the game with its unnecessary, though meager, particle effects.
Despite some fairly decent graphics, the game has an overwhelming sense of... More »
Demon's Souls is one of the games for the PS3 that have been unveiled as playable at Tokyo Game Show.
Demon's Souls will be released some time in 2009 and it is a spiritual successor to King's Field, a PS1 title that was never officially released in the US.
The game takes place in the kingdom of Boletaria, where you play an unnamed protagonist who roams around in an "extremely open-ended" world -- you can choose to save the world from the king who will awaken "an ancient monster" in his sleep, or not. It's all up to you.
The game's director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, is attempting to "make the fun and charms of a classic RPG interesting all over again with the latest technology at hand." For example, instead of placing traditional restrictions on item usage, it uses the game's physics to place more realistic limits such as "long weapons bump into walls, lighting the area in real-time with the torch in your hand."
Sony Computer Entertainment has unviled unveiled its new action-RPG entitled 'Demon's Souls' for PS3 in the latest issue of Famitsu.
The game will be playable at the Tokyo Game Show this year, and is scheduled for release in Japan next year.
Here are a few translated details from the link above:
- you can create your own hero with several customization options available
-You must fight impressive monsters
- The monsters are apparently able to change their shape (giant butterfly, dragon, etc..)

Paramount Home Entertainment has finally unwrapped the details to Iron Man's Blu-ray arrival previously confirmed for September 30.
Iron Man will be presented as an Ultimate Edition two-disc set on Blu-ray in widescreen 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio.
Blu-ray owners will benefit from several supplemental features that won't be found on the single or two-disc DVD sets. "Hall of Armor" will let reviewers zoon in on and study the three Iron Man suits or Iron Monger, then activate a 3-D weapons schematic to see what each suit is packing in terms of firepower.
Also exclusive to Blu-ray is Iron Man IQ, a BD-Live feature allowing viewers to create their own custom multiple-choice questions based on clips from the film and then share them as a working test with friends online.
The full list of over four-hours of bonus features is as follows, most of which is presented in HD.

- Dispel effects will no longer attempt to remove effects that have 100% dispel resistance.
- Parry Rating, Defense Rating, and Block Rating: Low-level players will now convert these ratings into their corresponding defensive stats at the same rate as level 34 players.
- Haris Pilton has launched a new line of bags and jewelry. Check her out in the World’s End Tavern!
- Mounts at 30?! Yes, it’s true: Apprentice Riding and mounts are now available at level 30. Training costs 35 gold.

Man alive, is Alone In The Dark dingy. The screens grabbed from our near-finished build are so dark that we had to download a virtual torch desktop application just to see what the hell was going on.
Ironically, it is hell going on. We're not surprised it's so hard to see: the game's set at night, in a city losing electricity, with a hero donned in enough black fabric to keep a family of four emos fed for a month.
So what if Wii can't render the nightscape as anything more than blackness smeared with gloom?
At least Hydravision are trying their best to keep up with flashy next-gen counterparts. Expecting your typical step-down port to Wii? You'll be surprised. Hydravision isn't AITD's real dad - that would be Eden games - but Atari have pretty much pointed them towards the next-gen version and said "Make that on Wii."
And so they have. Sort of. Whereas on 360 and PS3 you can grab objects and direct them in 3D space, here you grab ob... More »
