252w ago - Alongside Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, cool glasses-wearing Metal Gear daddy Hideo Kojima will attend to deliver a keynote speech next month at the event.
To quote: Called "Solid Game Design: Making the 'Impossible' Possible," this will be Kojima's first appearance at GDC. He must have heard that all the cool kids were doing it. Last year's GDC was also populated by many big-time Japanese guests.
"The Game Developers Conference has invited Hideo Kojima to keynote every year for as long as I can remember, so we couldn't be more excited that, at long last, he feels that it is time for him to address the game development community," said Meggan Scavio, event director of the GDC.
"The anticipation is already huge to see how one of the community's most revered and elusive creators will inspire attendees to further push the limits of game development."
279w ago - Recent evidence has shed light that the Xbox360 arcade is to have a price cut down to £100/$199.99. It is comonly claimed that the £100 price tag is when a console realy takes off, indicating that the Xbox 360 will once again see the dominance it saw prior to the launch of the Wii.
The Wii is currently dominating at the price of £180, despite the Xbox360 arcade being around £160 there hasn't been a significant market shift. However now that the arcade is being reduced to £100 we will see a huge difference; we can expect the other model to follow suit. The 20GB being bought down to £160 and the 60GB coming in at £180.
These price cuts will mean that gamers who previouly set out after Wiis may instead pick up a £100 arcade and games instead of simply the Wii. However we will also see parents contribute, if they are aware their son/daughter is into video games then the arcade is the perfect present for christmas or birthdays.
However it will also be be only £10 dearer than the PS2, which may finally kill off the final of the last gen consoles. The PS2 still acounts for a large amount of Sonys income and is still selling fast due to its low price tag, with a nex-gen console to rival it then the PS2 may not live for much longer.
291w ago - Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg says "the days of Sony snowing the consumers and the press are over," that the company has failed to deliver on numerous promises, and challenges Sony's latest European PS3 sales figures.
"We have been fighting Sony's promises from the day we entered the market," Greenberg told Destructoid. "Three years ago at E3 they showed what PS3 games would supposedly look like with the Killzone 2 video, that we are now learning will ship four years later. That means that we will have shipped Gears of War and Gears of War 2 before they can even get Killzone out the door.
"Think back to GDC 2007 when Sony promised to leap ahead in online with the Sony Home unveil. Here we are two years later and multiple delays for a product that appears to have little to no buzz. Where are the achievements? The friends list integration across all games? Where is the long-promised video store? Where are all the other products using and networking with their CELL chip?
How come Blu-ray did not result in better games? What happened with Sixaxis and rumble? Where is the complete 1080p game library we were promised? If Blu-ray as they said would be such a catalyst to PS3 console sales, then why have PS3 sales over the past couple of months not seen any lift since the format victory?"
293w ago - A reader on a tech site is reporting that Sony are failing to deliver the free PS3's they were offering as a sweetener with Bravia TVs.
The customer says its been nearly 5 months and they have still not received the PS3 and Sony are offering no solution to the problem.
It is unclear if this is an isolated incident or more widespread.
To quote: Dear Blorge,
I would like to bring to your attention a matter that has happened to my grandfather of all people regarding Sonys Bravia tv offer. With every 1080p television sold they would give a free Playstation 3 away.
My grandad was already looking at a Sony 40" Bravia tv. The X series. by the way the TV is brilliant. The problem was with the playstation. He ordered the TV half way through December, and it took, after a month of delays might i add, a month to get here. We were told by sony we would have to wait for the TV to get here before we could order the playstation and it would then take 28 days.
With much help by our local Retravision my grandad has been persistent on the issue ringing Sony asking how long it would take to get here. It is now the end of april and it still has not arrived. We have contacted Sony several times asking the question but with no definite answer or real apology. I am very angry...
