Video: Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Out Today on PlayStation 4

34w ago - Crystal Dynamics Community Manager Meagan Marie announced alongside a video trailer that the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is out today on PlayStation 4 with details below.

To quote: Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is often declared a passion project at Crystal Dynamics, and in my opinion it shows. Lara's next-gen debut united three studios - leads from Crystal, longtime partner Nixxes, and Sleeping Dogs' United Front Games - to usher Tomb Raider into a new generation of gaming.

Definitive Edition pairs the vision and artistry of the original release with technological improvements that allowed for a truly definitive experience, and one that only hints at what the future holds for Lara.

We're really eager to get Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition into your hands, or the hands of your friends if they've yet to venture to Yamatai. Below you'll find a few words from the team thanking you for your support, and for spreading the word about Lara's first journey on next-gen.

"Thanks in advance everyone! Enjoy the improved Lara!"
Mike Abahazy, Senior Technical Artist

"I just wanted to say thanks to all the TR fans out there - old and new! It was great fun working on the Definitive Edition....

Hands-on with Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on PlayStation 4

37w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements is back with a hands-on peek with Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on PlayStation 4 below!

To quote: Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is not a simple, upscaled version of last year's critically-acclaimed adventure. It's a colossal effort, soaked in visual enhancements and technical optimizations. Just when we thought Lara Croft hit her peak, she keeps on climbing.

One of the first challenges Crystal Dynamics faced was Lara herself - even though the team had smashed expectations with the impressive original game. A new head and face model have been implemented in this portrayal of Lara, bringing new life to the legendary heroine.

Among the torrent of improvements made, the developers worked with subsurface scattering technology on Lara's skin. This means light will actually pierce the top layer of her skin and diffuse, giving it a realistic glow.

Lara's equipment has also been given abundant attention. Her bow and pickaxe clatter, bob, and move with her body, giving her entire character a renewed sense of authenticity. She sweats and bleeds like the best of us when put under extreme duress, and the remarkable animation and voice work continue to instill Lara with life.

There was no slowing down for Crystal Dynamics after...

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Detailed, Hits PS4 January 28th, 2014

41w ago - Crystal Dynamics Executive Producer Scot Amos announced today that the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition hits PS4 on January 28th, 2014.

Below are the details, to quote: Hi everyone, I'm Scot Amos, executive producer at Crystal Dynamics. On January 28th of 2014, we're bringing the award-winning Tomb Raider experience to PS4 in the form of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.

Recreating our franchise for PS4 was a true labor of love for the team. The critically acclaimed story and action adventure remain solidly intact and as riveting as ever. However, we took the opportunity to use the increased horsepower of the hardware to create the Tomb Raider we always envisioned.

We had a core team here at Crystal collaborating with the super talented teams at United Front Games (who worked with Square Enix on Sleeping Dogs) and Nixxes (whom Crystal has partnered with since the Legacy of Kain days). Together, we pulled the game apart and painstakingly rebuilt it with enhanced visual fidelity, realism, and a new immersive richness to the world.

Getting our gameplay up to native 1080p meant increasing all of our texture resolutions by over 4x so the details and nuances can be seen in their full glory.

However, it's subtleties like our subsurface scattering technology - how we...

Video: Sine Mora: Definitive Version on PS3 and PS Vita Today

50°
96w ago - Digital Reality Level Designer Ferenc Nagy-Szakall has invited fans to play Sine Mora: Definitive Version on PS3 and PS Vita today with a fresh trailer video below.

To quote: Sine Mora is launching on PS3 and PS Vita today, including some content that was cut from other versions of the game. Between a new challenge mode, the collaboration of a Japanese shoot'em up giant, and the special abilities of the PS Vita hardware, we truly think the wait for Sine Mora on PS3 and PS Vita was worth it - these versions are the richest we could possibly deliver.

From a technical perspective, the PS3 version was a walk in the park. Our technology has always been designed with the Cell processor in mind, enabling us to go for high framerates and image quality, uncompromised.

We're especially proud of how the PS Vita version turned out - neither the framerate nor the resolution was sacrificed, delivering the highest possible rendition of our original vision on a handheld.

Having exclusive levels is cool, but a brand new game mode is even better. We wanted to include something memorable – a game mode which is more difficult than other parts of the game on insane difficulty setting. A mode that is so tricky, even its creators couldn't master it on their first attempt. Nor the tenth....
