Video: Atlus Announces Daylight PS4 is Out Today on PlayStation 4

50°
17w ago - Atlus PR Manager John Hardin announced that Daylight PS4 is officially out today on PlayStation 4!

Below are the details, to quote: "They moved the afflicted to this place where you stand. They thought it would protect and leave them to grow. Then came Corruption, Persecution... and Chaos." - Dr. Mercer

Dark corridors? Check. Creepy sounds of death and terror? Check. Ominous quote with heavy implication that you're probably somewhere you shouldn't be? Double check! Daylight, the new horror game from Zombie Studios (Blacklight Retribution) and ATLUS, launches today for PS4!

This procedurally generated, first-person survival-horror game (say that ten times fast) puts you in the shoes of Sarah Gwynn - a girl who mysteriously wakes up in the abandoned Mid Island Hospital. Exits throughout areas of the hospital are sealed off with rune inscribed doors that can only be opened with unique relics.

Each relic ties into the facility's dark past, but they will only appear once you've uncovered enough of Mid Island's sadistic history. Sounds easy enough, right? Oh yeah, just watch out for those evil, revenge-driven witches stalking your every move... Remember - light is your friend!

Sony Goes Hands-on with Daylight on PS4: Broadcasting Your Horror

50°
27w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements went hands-on today with Daylight on PS4 which details broadcasting your horror on the PlayStation 4 video gaming console.

To quote: The meek shine of a cell phone light provides precious little comfort in the dark halls of an abandoned hospital. Its glow throws menacing shadows across every wall and beneath long-abandoned wheelchairs.

Creaking steps and whispers flutter down the passage, and the promise of a scare is never far off. But Daylight, which launches on PS4 this April, offers a different take on the classic genre. And with the developers at Zombie Studios taking a keen interest in streaming tech, the horror of playing alone could actually be a shared experience.

Crafted by a small team at Zombie, Daylight follows the frightened footsteps of Sarah Gwynn as she works her way through a series of haunting environs. While many horror games rely on finely tuned scares specific to the moment, Daylight uses procedurally generated play to keep every moment fresh.

Levels and scares change for each player, meaning that no two sessions will be identical. And no player will know exactly when that foreboding whisper will turn into a howling spectre hungry for Sarah's life.

In Daylight, players have no weapons - only flares...

Daylight on PS4: Designing the Hero, Protagonist Sarah Gwynn

50°
28w ago - Daylight Writer Jessica Chobot shared details today on designing the hero, protagonist Sarah Gwynn, in Daylight on PS4.

To quote: With the Daylight launch just around the corner, I wanted to give PlayStation.Blog readers a bit of background on our protagonist, Sarah Gwynn.

The reasons we chose to go with a female main character were twofold. The first reason being that because I was writing the game, she became (in a roundabout way) an extension of myself. I came up with the outline for Daylight based on some urban exploration I did in my high school days.

Specifically, a blighted little spot within my small Michigan town by the name of The Sheldon Buildings (officially known as the [Register or Login to view links] for Feeble Minded Children).

The Sheldon Buildings were a dilapidated set of buildings from the early 1900s linked together by a set of underground tunnels running throughout the grounds (they've since been torn down). A town within a town, the outer perimeter of the Training School was bricked-in by a 7+ foot tall wall.

Within the gates, the school hosted a hospital center, a gigantic, old-fashioned theater, dorms, an indoor and outdoor pool, its own police and fire stations, as well...

The Real Horror Behind Daylight on PlayStation 4 / PS4 is Unveiled

50°
43w ago - Writer Jessica Chobot unveiled the real horror behind Daylight on PlayStation 4 / PS4 today, with details below as follows:

Considering today is Halloween, the dev team and I wanted to share with you a story about what inspired Daylight's location, the fictional Mid Island.

It's an abandoned, desolate place with the fašade of any other island in the New England area, but bears deep scars in terms of unspeakable events that took place there and at its most infamous location, the Mid Island Bay Hospital.

While a lot of the environments in our game are a hodgepodge of various haunted locales around the country, there's one very real, very personal experience I had growing up that truly inspired the feel of Daylight. This is that story...

The town that I grew up in had a Rockwellian main street, a neighborhood drug store that still served phosphates, rows of corn as far as the eye could see, and an abandoned mental facility known as The Sheldon Buildings.

Built in the 1900′s, the Sheldon Buildings were left to rot after accusations of abuse and misappropriated funds shut the place down.

In the late '90s, the city finally sealed up the underground tunnels beneath the facility, knocked down the brick buildings, and vomited up a few acres worth of...

Daylight PS4: The Power of the Unknown Hits PlayStation 4 in 2014

50°
46w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements announced today that Daylight on PS4 dubbed The Power of the Unknown is slated to hit PlayStation 4 in 2014.

To quote: In an age of horror games with carefully crafted scares and achingly detailed environments, Zombie Studios is trying something new with its upcoming horror game, Daylight.

Players awake inside an abandoned hospital, with only the light of their cellphone to guide them through the thick black. But unlike other horror games, Daylight changes every time you play.

To better understand Daylight, and the scares within, we asked Zombie Studios Creative Director Andre Maguire to explain how the game came together and why procedurally generated scares give the horror genre a shot in the arm. Maguire also tells us about developing on PS4, and what inspirations fueled the team members in their creative process.

Daylight is tentatively scheduled to launch in early 2014.

PlayStation.Blog: What inspired the team at Zombie Studios to develop a hardcore horror title like Daylight, especially following successful first-person shooters such as Blacklight?

Andre Maguire: We love the horror genre, and we wanted to try and create a game that would be scary every time you played it. We knew that...
