Video: Madness Awaits You In the Darkest Dungeon on PS4

3w ago - Red Hook Studios Creative Director Chris Bourassa shared a PS4 video today announcing that madness awaits you in the Darkest Dungeon on PlayStation 4.

Below are the details, to quote: Greetings from the Abyss! We are Red Hook Studios, an independent 5-person team working out of Vancouver, BC, Canada.

We're all big fans of the dungeon crawling genre here, going all the way back to classics like Bard's Tale and Eye of the Beholder (1 & 2!).

We decided we wanted to honor that lineage and make an RPG in the classic vein. However, we also wanted to do something different at the same time. Something unique and challenging in its own way. Something memorable. Then it hit us: Stress.

We all experience it, especially those in particularly grueling circumstances. Like being 500 feet underground and running out of food, fighting horrific monsters, surrounded by all kinds of unnameable awfulness, for instance. It turns out, being a dungeon delver is rather a rough job.

THE AFFLICTION SYSTEM: EVEN HEROES ARE HUMAN!

Stress is a central mechanic in Darkest Dungeon - everything your heroes see, do and have done to them affects their stress levels, both positively and negatively. Land a big...

Dark Souls Hits PlayStation 3 Today, Meet Its Darkest Demons

168w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has revealed some of the darkest demons in Dark Souls, which will officially be hitting the PlayStation 3 entertainment system today!

To quote: "All the monsters I design, from Demon's Souls to Dark Souls, are beautiful to me no matter how gruesome their appearance."

Dark Souls Director Hidetaka Miyazaki shared this bit of insight with me earlier this year in an interview and the quote has bounced through my brain for more than six months.

Since then, I've been wanting to get a closer look at the game's stunning creature designs, all of which are plucked from the further reaches of Miyazaki's fevered imagination.

Luckily, today's the day. For the viewing pleasure of readers, From Software and Namco Bandai have collected a host of rare concept artwork accompanied by design notes from Miyazaki himself. Miyazaki also wanted to pass along a greeting just for readers:

"I am hoping all of you experience meaningful deaths many times in the game. I know that the game is challenging, but I want you to keep trying to overcome any difficulty you face in the game. And please feel a great sense of achievement when overcoming a difficulty!"

The Shady Future of PSP - It's Always Darkest Just Before Dawn

341w ago - Takeru Kobayashi is no giant. According to Wikipedia, he's just another day at the office for the average measuring tape, coming in at only 5 ft. 8 in. tall. Neither does the scale fear his presence, as he weighs a fairly muscular 191 lbs.

If you saw this man out for a stroll among the hustle and bustle of the streets, would you believe he could wolf down 63 hot dogs in 12 minutes? Would you believe he won Nathan's (no relation) Hot Dog Eating Contest six years in a row? Of course not. You'd never expect him to be the Jaws of hotdog lore.

Well guess what: the PSP is exactly like Takeru Kobayashi. It's no sales behemoth. Only marquee titles from its library make it onto the NPD's vaunted top-ten software sales list. You'd never guess that it's doing great, but in spite of your doubts, it is.

See, even though we wrote about the PSP's sudden drought of top-selling titles, it hasn't rained in years. That is to say, the PSP has never been one for chart-busting game sales, but that hasn't stopped it yet. And Sony understands this. They've noted its change in primary audience and are ready to embrace it.

Unlike the Xbox 360 and PS3, which both frequently tout their multimedia capabilities, the PSP really is becoming a...
