Daily Challenges Now Available in Spelunky on PS3 and PS Vita

50°
57w ago - Mossmouth's Derek Yu announced today that daily challenges are now available in Spelunky on PS3 and PS Vita platforms.

Below are the details, to quote: Hey, everyone! It's Derek once again. First off, thank you for your tremendous support of Spelunky on PS3 and PS Vita.

You've made it clear that it was the right choice bringing the game to PlayStation! We're really happy about how the game has been received (generally with much glee, followed by screams of anguish, followed by more glee).

But I'm really here to talk about our first update, which is out now. Of course, every game launches with some number of bugs, and Blitworks has been working hard to fix as many of those as possible. The slowdown in certain areas of the game was probably the biggest issue, and that's been addressed. They also fixed a bug that was preventing certain Trophies from being earned.

Also, if you've been watching streams of people playing Spelunky on PC, you may have noticed that that version of the game has a unique feature called the Daily Challenge, where each day a set of levels is generated that has the same seed for everyone playing it. If you get a high score on the Daily Challenge, you can really attribute it to your skill and knowledge of the game, rather than the luck of the draw (i.e....

Daily Video Blog Rocketboom coming to PS3, PSP, and I-Link TVs

50°
333w ago - Daily video blog Rocketboom has handed over its distribution and ad sales to Sony Pictures in return for a seven figue guarantee plus a share of the revenues. Rocketboom will be distributed on Crackle as well as other Sony platforms including PS3, PSP and Bravia I-Link TVs.

To quote: Rocketboom founder Andrew Baron says he went with Sony because of Sony's distribution strengths and the deal allows him to maintain control of the business. (Whereas selling the business to another media buyer, such as WallStrip did to CBS a year ago for $5 million, would have required him to give up his baby).

The deal is structured as a distribution and advertising deal, and sounds like it could lead to a closer relationship or outright sale if things go well. But if they don't, Rocketboom would regain complete control of distribution and ad sales after the contract expires.

Rocketboom's current distribution through YouTube, iTunes, Tivo, and elsewhere will remain intact. Sony will sell ads across those distribution channels as well. Baron claims more than Rocketboom is watched more than one million times a month across all channels, and sometimes spike to several million views.
