Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Coming to PSN August 21, 2012

101w ago - Valve Software's Brian Levinthal has confirmed today that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is coming to PSN on August 21, 2012.

The driving force behind competitive e-sports, Counter-Strike has showcased the talents of the most skilled FPS players around the world. Beginning August 21st, the classic action is available on PSN.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive brings the industry's leading team-based action gameplay and adds new weapons, dramatically improved visual effects, and a skill-based matchmaking system to provide all players with a competitive and engaging experience.

Developing for PlayStation 3 gave us a great opportunity to take advantage of the unique qualities of the platform. For example, we're supporting a wide range of input devices including the PlayStation Move, PlayStation Move sharp shooter, and even keyboard and mouse.

Naturally, support for these devices means that different players in the same match might be using different controllers. Players using mouse and keyboard might end up playing against players using a joystick or motion controls.

Valve Releases Counter-Strike Team Fortress 2 Update for PC

262w ago - Valve has released an update today for their classic FPS Counter-Strike Team Fortress 2, now available on [Register or Login to view links].

The changes include some additional commands for the game and Half-Life Engine as well as Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. The update can be applied by restarting the Steam client.

The full update notes:

Half-Life Engine

• Added -sys_ticrate command line option to allowed forced override of ticrate
• Prevent more cases of server redirection

Counter-Strike/Condition Zero

• Added -nobots option to allow forced override of bots on servers
 

Counter-Strike Online's 170,000-Player Beta Weekend

342w ago - Game Watch are reporting that Counter-Strike Online, Valve and Nexon's shot at total Asian gaming domination, just enjoyed a successful three-day closed beta.

Around 170,000 Korean CS players took a shot at the upcoming, heavily localised, Steam-free version of the classic FPS, which among other tweaks features some new maps and new weapons.

CSO is scheduled for release in Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan.
