232w ago - Although it probably isn't necessary, adding to Ars Technica's recent PS3 Slim confirmation comes yet another... this time from PSM3 Magazine.
TechRadar recently asked a number of PlayStation magazine editors and games industry analysts for their own views on the matter, to quote:
"The PS3 Slim is a certainty," said PSM3 magazine editor, Dan Dawkins, in no uncertain terms.
Following the PS3 Slim rumors reaching fever pitch earlier this month, TechRadar cannot help but wonder if the PlayStation mag editor perhaps knows something that we don't?
"Given the similarity of the leaked packaging to the official PSP Go box, the PS2 Slim's historical precedent, plus the latest round of manufacturer gossip - but the July release date sounds dubious," Dawkins adds.
Today, PlayStationLifestyle (linked above) has revealed that SCEA has indeed registered PlayStationCloud.com, as follows:
SCEA San Diego Studio
10075 Barnes Canyon Rd
San Diego, CA 92121
SCEA San Diego recently mentioned while speaking to Gamasutra that they would be exclusively working on PSN game development. This goes against all speculation so far pegging PlayStation Cloud as a social networking service. Of course Sony San Diego could very well be developing a service or application, for the PSN with PlayStation Cloud.
Whatever PS Cloud is, it seems as though it's going to be coming from Sony's...
286w ago - After weeks of rumored PS3 Firmware 2.40 coming and the recently rumored intermediate 2.36 update, today we finally have official confirmation straight from Eric Lempel (Director, PlayStation Network Operations) as follows:
A new PLAYSTATION 3 firmware update (v2.36) will be launching soon, improving system stability when playing select PlayStation format software titles.
We're also happy to officially report that the 2.40 system software update for PS3 will include "XMB" access in-game. The update will also include "trophies," an exciting new feature that we'll be providing more details on soon, as well as some other new enhancements.
We've talked about some of this on the blog previously and know that many of you can't wait to get your hands on these features. You can expect us to share all of the official details shortly.
292w ago - On completion of the Haze demo gamers have been greeted with the following message:
"Exclusive on the PlayStation 3 system: 4-Player CO-OP campaign."
This seems to confirm the belief that it is just a timed exclusive, and that the 4-Player CO-OP campaign is something that will be exclusive to the PS3.
Does this confirm the rumors that the PC and Xbox 360 versions are still coming? Maybe Ubisoft has let the cat out of the bag and the cancelled versions for the PC and Xbox 360 were just postponed so the PS3 could see some love from Ubisoft?
Time will tell, but it is strange wording to say the least.
298w ago - Despite media reports to the contrary, Sony has officially confirmed that the much-touted Portable Copy feature will NOT be included in the upcoming Firmware 2.20 update for PS3.
Not entirely unexpected, considering the original press release made no such mention of the feature.
To quote: SCEA contacted us today to let us know we were right to doubt, the Playstation 3's firmware 2.20 update will not include Portable Copy support, despite reports to the contrary.
Too bad, I'm about to go away on a trip for a few days and was thinking I might be able to bring some movies with me. Of course, I'm also still confused about whether all Blu-ray movies will be copyable or if it will be only for movies that have an extra PSP file included on the disc.
