After hearing that the Call of Duty: World at War demo- I mean BETA, was available for any Xbox Gold subscriber, I decided to download it.
After playing for about two hours, I've come to one conclusion, and one of my good friends put it best: "World at War is totally a World War II mod for CoD4," and she's entirely right.
That's not to say that being exactly the same is a bad thing, far from it. Call of Duty 4 was an incredible game, with a large online community, and I fully expect World at War to follow closely in its footsteps. Of course, the only experience I have with the game is the multiplayer, which is pretty easy to duplicate.
The real question is going to be if Treyarch can manage to actually make the campaign interesting; everybody's getting tired of World War II. Regardless of how the actual campaign plays out, I know that tons of people are going to migrate over from CoD4 for no reason other than they're starting to get tired of the... More »
The question is, do game companies sell less games because they offer a beta or a demo?
In an interview with GamePro magazine, Gears of War head-honcho Cliff Bleszinski said the following: "Once you play a BETA, you can check it off your list - you can say, yeah, I played it."
So, what Cliff seems to be saying is that they will not sell as many games to the public if they offer a beta/demo. Makes some sense and as the old saying goes, why buy the cow (or GOW in this case...) when the milk is free.
Of course BETAs can be looked at in a slightly different light than demos because a beta is supposed to help the devs sort out issues that they might not have found otherwise. Wide-scale testing also stresses servers and other support systems that routing in-house testing just can't do as effectively.
On the other hand, betas do provide quite a bit of insight into the final product. The gameplay will almost certainly be the same and ... More »
So I make no secret of the fact I LOVE Bioshock. It was my game of the year last year by a long way. Yeah COD4 was a great game and I am still playing that. Halo Jesus really was not the game it should of been - please don’t flame me it’s just my opinion and Mass Effect had too many little issues. So Bioshock really stood out for me.
So it was with great delight that I found out it was coming to my shiny black paperweight. The trouble is, would it play well on the PS3?
Well the demo hit the PSN (all regions thanks you 2k/Sony!) and I downloaded it as soon as I got home. It took a little under and hour to drop down the 1.8GB demo (holy crap demos are getting bigger !) and around ten minutes to install (go figure!).
It was with real trepidation that I launched the game and waited for the menu to roll up. First thing you notice is just how many teams worked on this game! 2K Boston, 2K Australia, Digital Extremes etc - That never sounds good!

Are you a fan or veteran of battle/war games? For the most of us the answer is probably yes and if so I’m sure you probably have Call of Duty 4, one of the most popular recent war games released within your collection. If you are a Call of Duty veteran then you also probably feel an “emotional high” when you take the enemy out or beat the game, but again who don’t that’s the point.
As a gamer we all would like to do whatever we can to make our gameplay the most fun possible and get or do whatever we can to have the ultimate gaming experience and that’s why I’m here to tell you about the Call of Duty 4 (COD4) Fast Reload Trigger and Rapid Fire Controller from Evil Controllers. That’s right a controller developed by Evil Controllers that can change your total Call of Duty 4 playing experience, of course at a cost.
The controller is simply a modified Xbox controller made specifically for Call of Duty 4 gameplay that can provide faster reload an... More »
Recently, Sony rep Eric Lempell premiered the Playstation 3’s in-game XMB system along with their answer to Xbox 360’s “achievements”, the PS3 trophy system. Jubilant PS3 owners can now listen to their favorite tracks during those marathon CoD4 sessions, message their friends without leaving Snake in the cold, connect Bluetooth headsets in-game and even enter a different game – all without quitting back to the XMB.
True, 360 owners have had the privilege of using these exact features for the past two and a half years, but with an ever expanding market for Blu-Ray, a wealth of excellent titles for ’08 and Playstation Home on the way, Sony’s now burgeoning online service can now compete directly with Microsoft’s.
Storefront: PSN Both PSN and Xbox Live allow you to download arcade games, download demos, additional content for games, trailers and wallpapers for your menu. Both offer roughly the same amount of demos each Wednes... More »
The Metal Gear Solid series has consistently delivered some of the best original soundtrack material in games, due in large part to the orchestrations of Harry Gregson-Willams.
Those smart enough to have picked up the Limited Edition Bundle of MGS4 were treated to a bonus CD featuring 16 tracks from Gregson-Williams’ killer score for the game.
For those not in the know, Harry Gregson-Williams is one of the most prolific composers of the past decade or so, with film credits ranging from “The Rock” to the upcoming “Wolverine” movie. Gregson-Williams is also unique since he is a film composer, who was sought out to lend his style to video games, starting with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and continuing through this latest game. In fact, the only other game soundtrack to feature his music so far is Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Now granted this is merely a sampler of the music from MGS4 and the Japanese got a full on two di... More »
Well I’ve been playing MGO a lot lately. Matter of fact it’s all I’ve been playing. I used to play COD4 everyday but now that I have MGO COD4 has been collecting more dust than my PS3. While playing MGO I’ve come to the conclusion... MGO is better than COD4s Multiplayer.
Here are my 10 Reasons why:
1. Metal Gear Online customizations whoop the ass of COD4s. You can customize the guns and the outfit your guy is wearing. Plus if you do good you earn more guns and newer outfits. Just like COD4s rank system but better.
2. The Stat tracking system is a million times more in depth than COD4s “Barracks”. It keeps your personal stats, matches played has leader boards and clan management. There’s really nothing missing here.
3. The graphics are beautiful. On par with Singleplayers cut-scenes. With the same amazingly detailed textures and great frame rate.
4. Sons of the Patriots system is the air support. It can exp... More »
Ahead of this weekend's Call of Duty: World at War reveal via Xbox Live Marketplace, comes a tasty little rumour hinting that the COD4 developer's next game will be a bit on the science fiction side.
Take it with a pinch of salt for the time being but an insider from Infinity Ward is reported to have said, "we are currently working on a new sci-fi title, we cannot release any more information as of yet, we may or may not announce it at E3.
We're not sure how much into the future we're talking here and we hope we're not shooting little green men or vampires on Mars. We've done a little digging only to be greeted by blank looks, which doesn't actually rule anything out in our experience. But it doesn't confirm anything either.
Usually we wouldn't go for such randomness, but we've got a funny feeling about this one. More soon maybe...?
