Credit Card & Adult Material Left on Used Circuit City Consoles

299w ago - Anyone who unloaded an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 during the dying days of Circuit City had best hope they deleted all their private information, including credit card numbers and adult material, because it turns out that Circuit City didn't.

To quote: [Register or Login to view links] was contacted by a reader who works in a refurbishing facility that bought some of Circuit City's stock of pre-owned Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS and PSP systems when the company went under.

The terms of the deal specified that the systems would be in working order, "with maybe a few components missing."

It may or may not come as a surprise depending on your own particular bias toward the company but Circuit City apparently failed to live up to its end of the bargain: 217 of 227 Xbox 360 and 167 of 205 PlayStation 3 consoles received in the deal were "non-functioning."

Bad enough in itself, perhaps, but things got even uglier when the center started repairing and testing the consoles. When the systems were taken online to check their connectivity, many of them suddenly started popping up with friend...
 

Retailer Circuit City to Close Completely, 30k Jobs Will Be Lost

310w ago - A little over two months back we [Register or Login to view links] on retailer Circuit City closing 155 store locations... and today, they have officially announced they are closing the rest.

To quote: US electronics retailer Circuit City is to close after failing to reach a deal with its creditors and lenders, with the loss of 30,000 jobs.

Liquidators will now sell off the firm's assets. The announcement comes two months after the firm was forced to seek bankruptcy protection.

Some 567 Circuit City stores will now shut for the last time. About 155 stores had already closed in December.

Circuit City vice chairman James Marcum said the decision was "regrettable".

320w ago - The Consumerist reported over the weekend that electronics retailer Circuit City was closing 155 stores in an effort to cut costs.

Today, the company made it official via the Press Release linked above. Liquidation sales at the affected locations will begin on November 5. Below is the complete list.

LittleBigPlanet Pre-Orders: $15 Off at Circuit City, $10 at Amazon

323w ago - Those who pre-order LittleBigPlanet online at CircuitCity.com will receive an instant $15 gift card credit towards their purchase.

Amazon.com is offering a similar deal, but is only offering a $10 gift card on pre-orders.

To quote: Circuit City Stores Inc. this week began offering a free $15 gift card with the pre-purchase of Sony Corp.'s LittleBigPlanet for the PlayStation 3.

In the new promotion, buyers who purchase LittleBigPlanet at CircuitCity.com will receive an instant $15 gift card credit towards their purchase.

Concurrently, retailer Amazon.com is offering a $10 gift card with the pre-order purchase of the title.

LittleBigPlanet will allow players to custom-create characters, build levels, and share levels with others online. The title will also include both offline and online multiplayer modes for up to four.

Sony this month said that sales for the PS3 and the PSP are better than expected and may see a shortage at retail.
 

Circuit City Now Accepting HD-DVD Player Trade-Ins

355w ago - Have an HD-DVD player laying around and want to get rid of it? Well, if you bought it at any Circuit City location, you can now trade it in towards a purchase of any Blu-ray disc player.

Don't want a Blu-ray player? That's okay! They'll hand you a gift card in the amount of the original purchase price instead.

According to customer reports, the trade-in deal is good towards a PlayStation 3 unit as well. Keep in mind this deal is in-store only. The full memo is detailed below:

HD DVD - The End. Toshiba stated in a press release that they will stop manufacturing and selling HD DVD players. The marketplace has spoken in favor of Blu-ray.
