95w ago - This weekend PS3 developer tical has released a change_cinavia_files.tcl Cinavia patch for PS3 MFW Builder which disables the Cinavia DRM check for PlayStation 3 Modified Firmware users.

To quote: I have traced the Cinavia DRM checks to 4 separate sprx files and after a long time trying to patch these files I have found that 3 of those files are present in the DEBUG (DEX) firmware don't have the Cinavia DRM checks enabled. Files are videoplayer_util sprx, videoplayer_plugin sprx and videoeditor_plugin sprx.

I have successfully copied these 3 sprx files from DEBUG (DEX) FW 341 over to my retail PS3 unit running OFW 341 using dev_blind and Cinavia seems to be now disabled. I've confirmed this by playing back a number of Cinavia affected video files.

This means that Cinavia is now disabled for all DLNA playback...

162w ago - Update: As over 60 users are reporting below, it appears Sony has finally added a version check blocking PS3 Proxy methods for PSN. Additionally, 8002A212 is an error returned by the PSN servers during authentication (invalid version) and 8002A227 means your console is banned (OpenPSID = blacklisted).

While this doesn't impact enterprise IT -- because volume licensing agreements will allow IT to keep installing Windows XP for many years to come -- the move is another symbolic nail in Vista's coffin.

The public reputation of Windows Vista is in shambles, as Microsoft itself tacitly acknowledged in its Mojave ad campaign.

IT departments are largely ignoring Vista. In June (18 months after Vista's launch), Forrester Research reported that just 8.8% of enterprise PCs worldwide were running Vista. Meanwhile, Microsoft appears to have put Windows 7 on an accelerated schedule that could see it released in 2010. 263w ago - Yesterday I posted a thread in the PlayStation 3 Chat Forum on behalf of the resident PS3 Devs who have been working steadily towards the ultimate goal of unlocking the PS3's full potential. Up until now, much of what they have been doing has been quite technical and didn't require much end-user assistance.

Over the last 2-3 days they have made significant progress in multiple areas of the PS3 (which will be detailed in the Site News), however, they are now asking the PS3 community to "get out of your armchair" (see video below- the ball symbolizes the PS3, the goal is unsigned code, and the community are in the chairs).
