231w ago - An external SCEA PR rep has told Edge-Online why a chart (below) was released by Sony indicating that the PS3 was cheaper than Microsoft's XBox 360 and Nintendo's Wii console.
The rep noted that it was thought to be a good time to remind everyone of "our strong offerings".
To quote: An external SCEA PR rep From The agency Porter Novelli told us the company released the chart because they "thought it would be a good time just to remind everyone of our strong offerings," which automatically implies that they feel people have either forgotten about the PS3's inherent value or never seriously considered the PS3's value, due to the higher price tag.
It's highly likely that amidst this PS3 price-drop rumoring that Sony wanted to tell the core audience, "Hey, don't wait for a drop, it's a steal at $399, honest."
I'd argue that today PS3 is a fine value, on par with Xbox 360, particularly for gamers in 2009, when it appears that Sony's internal developers will really begin to bear fruit.
Nevertheless, I'm glad I'm not the one that has to figure out how to get that value message across to consumers.
240w ago - BingeGamer.net (linked above) has compiled a chart from various Web site and Forum users detailing how much time you can save by using a hard drive install under the New Xbox Experience. Its not complete at the moment, but does offer results for a number of XBox 360 games.
To quote: All I did here was put their collected information chart form. I will update as much as possible, drop a comment if you know how much time is saved on a particular game (where the "xxx"'s are marked).
I don't think the chart needs to be explained, you have the games, you have how much space they would take on your hard drive, and then how much time you'd be saving (not listed on the chart is how much relief you will be giving your poor disc drive).
No longer do 360 fanboys have the fodder of "oh you PS3 people have to install games blah blah" .. in the end, if you have a big enough hard drive, you know you'll be installing these games soon enough.
