Artist's Perspective: The Main Character of Road Not Taken

50°
26w ago - Spry Fox Lead Artist Brent Kobayashi shared his perspective of the main character of Road Not Taken on PS Vita and PS4 below.

To quote: Hi everyone! I'm Brent, the lead artist for Spry Fox's upcoming PS4 & Vita game, Road Not Taken. We've gotten a lot of questions and compliments about the look of the game's main character, so I thought you might enjoy reading about the process I went through in creating it!

First, I guess I should say that designing a game's main character/avatar is always tricky. The avatar has to work as a functional asset within the context of the game, has to look good in marketing materials and screenshots, but most importantly, has to feel right as something that represents you, the player! Easier said than done.

In Road Not Taken, the main character is a forest ranger of sorts (who happens to be blessed with mystical powers of levitation). Although the theme of the game superficially calls for it, I knew right off the bat that I didn't want to go with a typical "park ranger" motif.

The forest of Road Not Taken is mysterious and enchanted, and I wanted the Avatar to have the same vibe. So instead, I drew inspiration from more delightful/whimsical figures. Some of my key inspirations include:

Tearaway's Papery Challenges and PS Vita Character Customization

50°
40w ago - Sony Community Manager James Spafford outlined some of Tearaway's papery challenges and PS Vita character customization for fans below today.

To quote: Even though Tearaway is a single-player game - a personal journey shared by you, and your little messenger friend, iota or atoi - we couldn't resist giving Tearaway players the chance to express themselves creatively.

We've already talked at length about the oodles of papercraft models you can collect as you play through the game, but there are also in-game challenges that will allow you to personalize the world as you travel through it.

A squirrel who needs a new crown, a chap whose moustache has been stolen by crows, and a pig that's too ugly... these are all examples of problems you'll be asked to solve through the cutting out of virtual paper shapes.

When the time comes to get crafty, you'll be presented with a virtual cutting mat, and a selection of colored paper sheets. Using the pencil tool, you can trace a shape that you want to cut out using the front touch. If you make a mistake, you can erase your flawed pencil lines with the eraser tool, but once you're happy with the shape, hit the scissors icon to cut it out.

You can layer multiple sheets on top of one another, just like using real paper, and once...

65w ago - Creator Adam "Keits" Heart has revealed the current Divekick character roster below with more coming, as follows:

Seeing a character is one thing. Playing as them is another. But really, what you want deep down, is to get to know each of the playable characters in a fighting game. What are their motivations, birthdates, likes and dislikes?

Without this knowledge, how can you form the emotional bond needed to find success in Divekick? As such, we've collected each of the presently known characters' bios for you - tune into [Register or Login to view links] every Monday at 9:00PM CST for new character and content reveals.

Dive was raised in West Philadelphia with his fraternal twin brother, Kick. When trouble brewed at their local park, the boys' mother sent them to live with their Uncle Sensei in Bel Air to learn how to Divekick.

Dive strives to perfect the art of diving into the air, using his love of math to ensure that he is always at an angle that will lead him to victory. His massive study sessions and dedication to his schoolwork have left him with less time to focus on his kicking, however.

72w ago - Lab Zero Games CEO Peter Bartholow unveiled a new Skullgirls update today which includes a free character and stage with details below.

To quote: Last week, Lab Zero Games, the new developer of Skullgirls, started an [Register or Login to view links] to keep the game growing with the addition of new characters.

The results have simply blown us away – our amazing fans raised $150,000 to fund Squigly, our first DLC character, in under 24 hours. And now, a week later, we've more than doubled that and are well on our way to funding a second character.

So sometime this summer, all owners of Skullgirls will be able to download Squigly free! Not only will you get this awesome, parasite-infested opera singer to play with, you'll also get her story mode and a new stage.

In addition to Squigly's stage, we'll also be developing a new stage, the River King Casino, that will be also be released free. Check out this early concept sketch:

I did say it was early. But in the coming weeks, you'll see that rough sketch turn into a beautiful, hand-painted 3D stage.

In addition to an all-new track by Castlevania: Symphony of the Night composer, Michiru Yamane, this stage will feature our "Patron Saint" contributors'...
