Ragnarok Odyssey for PS Vita: Cards and Classes Revealed

100°
37w ago - XSeed Games Production Assistant Brittany Avery has revealed the cards and classes in Ragnarok Odyssey for the PS Vita handheld console today.

To quote: It's Ragnarok Odyssey time! I wanted to share more details about the game's beloved card equipment system, as well as the six job classes available in-game, so if you're all about the meat of the gameplay, this will be an informative blog entry for you.

If any of you have played Ragnarok Online, you may already be familiar with how cards work in Ragnarok Odyssey. For those who haven't played, don't worry! I'll explain. You will find cards in shops and from defeated monsters.

Depending on what monster you defeat, different things will appear on these cards, such as their likeness, rarity, and specific new abilities and stat boosts. Taking advantage of this is easy, as all armor in the game has a Card Capacity gauge - and the more you upgrade your armor, the more cards you can equip.

It's a nifty little system for when you need an extra boost in firepower to defeat an ugly FrostGiant (they really aren't all that cute) or a little extra HP.

How else do you change abilities in this game? Naturally, you change job classes. Ragnarok Odyssey provides six awesomely awesome job classes for you to choose from:...

Sony on Combating Piracy with PS Vita Proprietary Game Cards

700°
69w ago - Today Scott Rhodes of Sony Worldwide Operations was asked in an interview with GamaSutra.com how they are combating piracy on the PS Vita platform, who responded that proprietary PlayStation Vita Game Cards are currently being used.

Below is an excerpt from the interview with the details, to quote: "Sony's been very, very open about the fact that piracy really hurt the PSP, so I was wondering if you could dive into a little bit about the efforts you've put into preventing that this time.

SR: That was front and center in the early specs of this machine. We needed to have something that would combat piracy from day one, and that's why the cards that you can purchase for the games are in their own proprietary format.

And these days, so many people say the word "proprietary" is a bad word, but it's something that we felt was completely necessary to make sure that people could not pirate these games. I mean, it's a custom security solution on each one of these cartridges. That is something that we are confident will protect us from piracy for the long term."

Sony Confirms PS Vita PSN Accounts Linked to Memory Cards

750°
80w ago - Today Sony's associate brand marketing manager Crystal MacKenzie has confirmed that PS Vita PSN accounts are linked to the handheld's memory cards and not the device itself for those wondering.

Essentially this means those who like bringing their gamer profile and downloadable games over to a friends house to show them off will probably like the PlayStation Vita since the PSN accounts are bonded to the memory card they're downloaded to.

To quote from GameInformer.com (linked above): "Your PSN ID is bonded to your memory card and your memory card is bonded to your Vita," Sony associate brand marketing manager Crystal MacKenzie told Wired.

"So if you wanted to change different PSN users but use the same memory card, you would need to go factory reset."

So accessing your PSN account and games is as easy as swapping out the memory card they're installed on. Sounds simple enough. If you have too much media for one of Sony's spendy storage devices, you can have your PSN account linked to multiple memory cards.

One question I have is how often do you think you'll be swapping out memory...
