Until Dawn's 5-Step Formula for Successful Scares on PlayStation 4

50°
2w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton returns today with Until Dawn's 5-step formula for successful scares on PlayStation 4 below.

To quote: Admission: I'm a bona-fide horror nut. I love it. Can't get enough. You name it, I'll watch it: past-their-sell-by-date franchise sequels, grotty Eastern European video nasties, creepy found-footage indies, cliche-ridden teen slashers, and everything in between.

So, PS4-exclusive interactive horror [Register or Login to view links] is right up my alley.

Duly, last month I sat down with Jez Harris from developer Supermassive Games to pick his brains about the science of scaring poor innocent folk like you and I. He happily obliged, talking me through a few of the strategies the Guildford-based studio is employing to ensure you'll need to keep a clean change of underwear close at hand when the game hits the shelves later this year.

1. Bring in the experts

"We have Larry Fassenden and Graham Reznick as our script writers," explains Jez. "They are horror encyclopaedias in human form and have worked on all sorts of acclaimed horror movies, like The Innkeepers and Stakeland."

He's not wrong - these two know what they're...

8w ago - Rocksteady Studios Social Marketing guru Gaz Deaves offers a first look at the Scarecrow Nightmare Missions in Batman Arkham Knight on PS4 today in a PlayStation 4 video trailer below.

To quote: Hello on behalf of Rocksteady Studios and WB Games!

In our previous two videos, you've seen Batman infiltrate the Ace Chemicals plant, take on the Arkham Knight's militia forces and engage a platoon of unmanned drone tanks in the awesome new Batmobile, all with the objective of bringing Scarecrow's devastating plan to a halt.

We've demonstrated some new game features including the "Fear Takedown" and gadgets while gliding, as well as showing you the seamless integration of the Batmobile into the core Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay.

In this third and final part, we'll see Batman remote control the Batmobile to solve puzzles, and push his combat skills to the limit as he tackles a room full of armed mercenaries to save the Ace Chemicals' workers. Plus you'll get the first reveal of the showdown between the Batmobile and the Arkham Knight's powerful attack helicopter.

As an added bonus, check out the first look at the PlayStation-exclusive Scarecrow Nightmare Pack.

14w ago - Circle 5 Studios' Aaron Pollack posted up a PlayStation 4 video today announcing that Primal Carnage: Extinction is coming to PS4 next year.

To quote: So remember all that hype that started early last year about dinosaurs on PS4 but then things went dark on the project?

Set your ringtones to roar, because dinosaurs are coming to the PS4 in Q1 of 2015 with the launch of Primal Carnage: Extinction!

Primal Carnage: Extinction is a class-based, online multiplayer shooter unlike any other on the PS4 platform, featuring fast-paced combat, diverse environments, and over-the-top action.

On a mysterious island overrun with prehistoric monsters, players can choose to fight as a variety of legendary dinosaurs or to join the human mercenary team armed with a unique, distinctive, and destructive arsenal aimed at making these bloodthirsty beasts extinct once and for all.

What Happened to Primal Carnage Genesis?

Primal Carnage: Genesis began development at a time when the Primal Carnage brand and Lukewarm Media were being pulled in different directions, and forces within the company could not completely agree on which project to pursue.

There was a strong concept...
