Capping off three days of gaming, competing, creating and record breaking was the final keynote address given by NVIDIA Senior VP of Marketing, Daniel Vivoli. It was the culmination of all of the major events of the convention–results for the Guinness World Record, ESWC, the Demoscene and NVScene challenges–as well as the winners of best visual application and emerging companies. But what really stole the show: the Mythbusters blowout demo.

Congratulating the daunting task of completing a new Guinness World Record was the first highlight of the show. A total of 203 gamers played for 36-hours straight against each other–no small feat indeed. For their efforts, those that completed were awarded with customized plaques commemorating their achievement, gift certificates, a refund on their registration fee and sweet, custom NVIDIA-themed shoes by Nike.

EA Sports has released the breakdown of all the changes within the roster update for Madden 09 that will be out by (or on) release day. An update has already been done taking care of many of the changes that are detailed even as they continue to add to the upcoming one to make it the most accurate possible.

Last year there was an average of just below two updates a month which would seem sufficient. The problem was a long painful stretch from mid-November to mid-January that lacked any. If they can keep the consistency up this year than everyone should be pleased with the post-release roster support.

One thing that isn’t noted in this list is the fixing of player numbers. I immediately noticed that Julian Peterson had gone from the #59 of last year to the #98 of this year. Continue on to view the complete list of transactions, ratings adjustments, new contract lengths, and injured reserve placement.

Any console that can play the upcoming Ferrari Challenge, take one step forward. Not so fast Xbox 360! At least if System 3 CEO, Mark Cale is to be believed when he says, “The PS3 offers the most powerful opportunity in the global marketplace.”

Barring some phantom super-console lurking in the E3 rafters, we suppose that’s fair. Though, the fact that Sony’s better established throughout Europe, and that continent’s insatiable appetite for racing titles probably shouldn’t be counted out either.

“1080p resolution is a better solution than just HD,” boasts Cale while taking a light jab at the 720p Forza 2. Certainly, no one’s clamoring for less “p”, so news of this nature will surely do its part as red meat for forum trolls who absolutely obsess over tech specs.

Although, the very same people, those combing over every progressive pixel, may also take issue with the game running at 30 frames a second. Cale claims that yo... More »

According to a UPS employee, 3 members of staff were fired over the weekend for stealing GTA IV from shipment boxes and that more employees are set to be fired today for the same reason.

The source says they believe they are stealing the staff stole the copies for their own personal use.

To quote: "When we have a [big name release], we communicate it to operations and security teams. We have security in place at the facilities, and we make sure they understand to keep an eye out for things to exit the building," he explained.

How did they find where games were stolen? "We had tips from people inside, and some of them were discovered at intermediate hubs... it's easy to spot: flaps torn, some boxes are re-taped." In most cases, the bust is as easy as finding the last person who scanned the box as full and interviewing them.

"They're not selling them, these people are stealing one copy," he told me—all of the thefts seem to be for ... More »

Back when LEGO Star Wars was first announced people were understandably skeptical of the feasibility of creating a videogame based on not one, but two franchises, and still having it be fun to play. Nevertheless, Traveller's Tales stepped up to the challenge and melded a cute art style with innocently engaging gameplay that clicked with an alarming number of players.

Now Batman is being charged with wrapping his storied franchise around a world built by LEGOs. While we were once again skeptical of the ability of the characters to make the transition, after seeing the game at this year's Game Developer's Conference we've learned to keep our thoughts to ourselves.

One of my first concerns was the fact that there aren't three Batman movies that are worth being turned into a LEGO title. To get around that problem Traveller's Tales is creating a new storyline featuring a boatload of the characters from the Batman universe. While we did pry into the number of total... More »

January 29, 2008 - 2007 came, saw, and conquered all expectations anybody had for the gaming industry. With huge blockbuster titles like Halo 3, Ratchet and Clank: Future of Destruction, Crysis, and Super Mario Galaxy covering all platforms, last year was a veritable gamer’s nirvana.

But coming off of that high, will 2008 stack up? The question is on everyone’s mind and yet nobody can reach any agreements.

What most people can agree on is that profits in 2008 will not match those of 2007. How could they? 2007 will go down as one of the most profitable years ever for the industry, as it broke into the mainstream consciousness with the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises and banked an overall hefty $18 billion in sales.

2008 already brags a decent lineup of video games, the sheer magnitude and quality of 2007’s titles won’t be beaten for quite some time. That doesn’t mean, though, that 2008 will be the death of the industry as pundits ... More »

Before this generation, gaming gave us quite a bit of pain to suffer through before enjoying the pleasure. Nowadays, it seems as though we're being served everything we wished for on a silver platter. Here's seven new advances in gaming that have made us happier, yet lazier.

7- Open Worlds

Back in the 2D era, games would be filled with interesting backgrounds you never could quite reach. Knowing our car, no matter how well we raced it, would never get to that theme park in the distance, or that those gigantic blue mountains in Super Mario World were never going to be traversed kinda took the wind out of our sails. While there are still barriers and deceptive backgrounds being used in games today, there are quite a few games that let us explore every nook and cranny of gigantic virtual worlds. Now how about letting us bust down doors instead of searching for stupid keys?!

6- Online Matchmaking

The history of multiplayer gaming goes ... More »
