Sales of the PSP-3000 model in Japan have cooled considerably since it launched in the region, but Sony's portable sells far more than enough to retain the top spot on the Media Create hardware charts.

The PSP's hardware peers all took a hit this week; the Nintendo DS drops to third, with the Xbox 360 holding steady with the week's lowest decline.

The bad news continues for Sony's PlayStation 3, which suffers its worst week ever, selling just half of what its HD competition did, shedding nearly 17% of its sales week-to-week. Those LittleBigPlanet bundles can't come soon enough.

PSP - 60,467
Wii - 24,292
Nintendo DS - 22,965
Xbox 360 - 7,844
PlayStation 2 - 6,962
PlayStation 3 - 3,931

According to SCEA's Marketing Manager Mark Valledor here is some LBP downloadable content you can expect to see in the near future:

First, we know we’ve had a bumpy release, and for your patience, we’re releasing a handful of free downloadable content on the PlayStation Store (starting 11/6)

- “Launch” Spacesuit (Only available from 11/6 to 11/19)

In addition to the ‘fan appreciation gifts’ mentioned above, we wanted to share an overview of the types of DLC headed your way. Check back here every Wednesday to see what new DLC will be available on the PlayStation Store the next day…

One category of downloads will be, no surprise, SackBoy costumes. You’ve already seen a few of our pre-order announcements and partnerships with PlayStation Alumni, but this is only a snippet of available downloads to come. We’re hard at work to provide weekly downloads to k... More »

It appears as if GottaDeal.com (linked above) has done it again, sleuthing out a "Doorbuster: Friday 5AM to Noon Only" Sears Black Friday flyer promoting two new Nintendo DS bundles.

According to the listing, Sears will be offering two new DS bundles as follows: One bundle includes an Ice Blue DS, a similarly colored case, and a copy of the original Brain Age. The other packs a Mario Red DS emblazoned with the Italian plumber's iconic "M" and a copy of New Super Mario Bros.

Nintendo had not responded to requests for comment concerning the bundles as of press time. It should be noted that after the metallic rose DS's special-edition run in November, Nintendo opted to add the hue to its burgeoning rainbow of standard-edition SKUs by the following May.

The Sears flyer lists the bundles as $149.99 each.

According to SCEE UK marketing manager Adam Boita, “The main thrust of our advertising this Christmas season will be in cinema.”

Sony will launch its Q4 marketing assault with a huge cinema ad campaign – and has told the trade to look out for a new range of bundles for PS3 and PSP in time for Christmas.

To quote: Speaking exclusively to MCV, the software and hardware giant said it believed it had the wide range of titles needed to target each corner of the market, and that cinema advertising was the ideal way to convey that message to consumers.

“All our key IPs this year are being backed by major campaigns. Our cinema silver spot ties all the IP activity together and was kick-started with Buzz! Quiz TV on September 19th.

It will be running until the end of December, taking in MotorStorm Pacific Rift, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2 and SingStar.”

When the PSP first launched in North America on March 24, 2005, it revolutionized portable media forever with its ability to play videos, music and display pictures all while being a powerful gaming machine.

Since then, it gained even more functionality with a built-in Web browser, Skype functionality and connectivity with the Playstation 3. When the Playstation Portable (PSP) 2000 or 'Lite' model was released, it had all the quirks of the original model but answered consumer demands with the additional Video-Out socket which allows users to output video to any progressive television.

At the Leipzig Games Convention, Sony officially announced the newest chapter in the life of the PSP by revealing the PSP 3000 (or PSP "Brite", as dubbed in the blogosphere). The PSP Brite is just as thick, weighs the same and even has the same battery life as its predecessor, the PSP Lite. This newer model, however, consists of many ergonomic and aesthetic changes while offeri... More »
