Techland on Building the Open World of Dying Light on PS4

To quote: As we wrap up the production of Dying Light, I took some time recently to sit down and reflect on the incredible adventure the development of this game was.

The team members made me promise that at the release party for the game, I'll perform a rap song for them (Don't ask) and I wanted to write lyrics that would recount the time we spent on this project.

As I started digging deep in my memory I realized that I need to face one (perhaps the only one) personal regret that I have from that period. Early in the game's promotion, I said in one of the interviews that I'm not really fond of the "Mirror's Edge comparisons" journalists were making about our game.

Taken out of context it might have sounded to some ears that I didn't have respect for Mirror's Edge, and it was certainly spun that way by some online media and internet commenters. That's not what I meant!

What I meant was that Dying Light is a very complex game, and I simply wanted it to have a better, more accurate description. I sincerely felt that in our case the blurb "It's Mirror's Edge with zombies" didn't really do justice to what we aimed for with Dying Light.

We spoke with Cellar Door Games Co-founder and Game Designer Teddy Lee about how the team built this addictive RPG, and why they approached the Roguelike in a new way. See below for the full interview, and Teddy's insight into the design process.

To quote: I've always said that working on a Batman game is a huge privilege for us. Even though we have been working on Batman for over seven years, we've never lost sight of the fact that we are the current custodians of a very special universe.

So it was with great excitement, and not a small amount of trepidation, that we decided to add the fully playable Batmobile into the Arkhamverse, knowing that it would disrupt all of our existing systems and bring with it a huge amount of pressure to deliver on expectations.

I guess this is what excited me most about integrating this very special vehicle. Taking on challenges which don't have an easy answer is where the best innovations come, because you are forced to do the unexpected.

As it was with taking on a character that cannot kill and is powerful but vulnerable, so it is with taking on a car that is (in most right-minded people's heads) the single greatest vehicle ever.

Beenox: The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Building a Better Playground

To quote: Spider-Man is pretty incredible among super heroes. Rather than hide away from the world when confronted with the death of a loved one, he uses that very personal loss as motivation to invest even greater in society.

Spider-Man can tango with street thugs, mutant hybrids, and mechanical monstrosities, but he's not above your everyday cat-in-tree rescue.

He doesn't have a secret lair or concealed base of operations; he's just a guy in bright blue and red tights doing mid-air somersaults down Fifth Avenue. He wants to be seen. He enjoys this.

We had a few core goals for The Amazing Spider-Man 2: invigorate the experience with greater variety in play, more focused storytelling, and more natural pacing; deliver a world worth protecting; and finally, give you all the tools you need to make it fun to do so.

It means improving and refining on what came before with fresh content, to be certain, but it also means staying true to that unique personality, using it to inform every decision we make.

Tearaway: Building Your Own Papercraft World on PlayStation Vita

67w ago - Sony Community Manager James Spafford shared details today on building your own papercraft world in Tearaway on PlayStation Vita.

To quote: Tearaway is a game set in a papery world, which means that if you wanted to, you could craft the entire game from paper in the real world - and that's exactly what we hope people will do!

To help you along your way, we've filled the game will collectible papercraft plans, which you can unlock as you journey through the world.

As you play, you'll come across creatures, plants or objects that appear to be drained of their colour. Taking a picture of them with your character's in-game camera restores their colour, and unlocks their plan.

Each plan has various different skins - blank ones, or colorful ones, so you can either make something that looks like it does in the game, or customise them to look completely different and unique to you.

The plans will be accessed on our community website, where you'll find everything you've unlocked so far, and from here you'll be able to print them out, make them, and fill your house with papercraft!
