171w ago - Update: [Register or Login to view links] has now clarified that the ChromeClientPOSIX discovery was referring to the browser chrome not 'Google Chrome' the Web browser, and concludes that Google Chrome is not likely coming to the PS3 entertainment system after all.

According to Dutch site PS3Life.nl (linked above), Sony's PS3 entertainment system may soon be getting the popular Google Chrome Web browser despite Google [Register or Login to view links] that they have nothing to announce at this time.

Additionally, a [Register or Login to view links] implies that Sony is indeed hiring a developer to work with Google Chrome's Engine.

To quote, roughly translated: Sony has a Webkit source for their PS3 Web browser and can be found [Register or Login to view links] (with a test page now added [Register or Login to view links]).

Here you can see several things that Sony has updated on March 31 for pilot testing. A forum user NeoGaf the forum was, incidentally, to the bored and a look in the ps3-webkit-support.diff...

Rumor: Sony in Talks with Mozilla on FireFox PS3 Browser

244w ago - Update: According to [Register or Login to view links], Mozilla responded and denied the rumor, to quote: "They replied with the following: Nope - not sure how that rumor got started but it's been keeping us busy all day "

According to a rumor from E-mpire.com (linked above), Sony is in talks with Mozilla over the possibility of porting FireFox over to the PS3.

While this sounds promising, obviously there will be numerous security issues to address if this browser finds its way onto the PS3.

To quote: "We recently received a tip from a source very close to Sony who says that they have been in talks with Mozilla lately about possibly porting Firefox over to the PS3.

That said, our source made sure to point out that they were unsure if any deal had actually been reached at this point, but it is great news none the less considering the complaints Sony has been getting about the lack of reliability with their current built in PS3 web browser.

Throwing Firefox into the mix would give PS3 the ultimate advantage when it came to internet functionality."

264w ago - News from CodeMii regarding the HomebrewBrowser, I have to say it's simply amazing how much this gets used, more people use this as their way of downloading new apps than by hand, incredible.

To quote: The Homebrew Browser turns 1 today. I have to say that it doesn't feel like it's been a year for me but you can't argue with the release dates.

Along with it comes this quick 1 year anniversary video put together showing the progression of the HBB versions.

The ending seems familiar
