100w ago - Today Sony's General Manager Mark Stanley in Latin America has announced that an official PSN PlayStation Store and Blog have launched in Brazil!
To quote: We have amazing news for our Brazilian fans: Today, Brazil becomes the second country in Latin America to enjoy digital content from PlayStation Network with the launch of PlayStation Store on the PS3.
Starting today, PS3 users will gain access to the PlayStation Store to purchase and download nearly 200 pieces of digital content, including games, demos and PSone Classics, all without leaving the comfort of the living room couch.
Purchases can be made using credit cards and prices are displayed in local currency, Brazilian Real. PlayStation Network pre-paid cards will soon be available at a variety of local retail stores, soon to be announced. Brazilian users will have the option to view the PlayStation Store in English or fully localized Brazilian Portuguese.
New content will be added to the PlayStation Store weekly, beginning on August 2, including the addition of more downloadable PSP titles, so check back regularly.
And if that's not enough, we are also announcing the launch of the PlayStation Brazil Blog, where Brazilian media and fans will find official...
157w ago - Today Sony's European Product Manager Clare Sandford has shared details on how fans can win a chance to attend The Karate Kid movie premiere and be a PlayStation Reporter for their blog, as follows:
The Karate Kid, starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, is set to launch with a series of glittering premieres across Europe ahead of its theatrical release on 28 July 2010.
You can win the chance to walk the red carpet at the London premiere on 15 July 2010 and be a PlayStation Reporter for the PlayStation.Blog.
But that's not all; to make sure you'll be a proper PlayStation.Blog reporter, the lucky winner will also win a Sony Vaio P Series laptop and a Sony Bloggie camera. Two runners up will win the classic The Karate Kid and The Karate Kid II on Blu-ray Disc.
All you have to do is visit the competition site and send us a review you have written about your favourite martial arts movie. Simple, just tell us why you like it in the most interesting and unique way.
Perhaps you've counted the amount of punches to the brain there are in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (46?!), or perhaps you feel you've unlocked the deep emotional metaphor of the bonsai tree in Karate Kid 2....
181w ago - This weekend GeoHot, the hacker responsible for several Apple iPhone hacks, has returned to Sony PS3 hacking after his initial announcement a few months back and has opened a PS3 hacks blog (linked above).
"I just pulled everything from the USB bus... http://pastie.org/757313 the Cell processor SPI bus, PS3 is going down :-)"
These are the latest posts on his new PS3 hacks blog:
The Cell processor has an SPI port which is used to configure the chip on startup. Well documented here. It also allows hypervisor level MMIO registers to be accessed. In the PS3, the south bridge sets up the cell, and the traces connecting them are on the bottom layer of the board. Cut them and stick an FPGA between.
Quick theoretical attack. Set an SPU's user memory region to overlap with the current HTAB. Change the HTAB to allow read/write to the hypervisor! If that works it's full compromise...
212w ago - Today Sony's Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has announced that their former ThreeSpeech has now officially launched as the European PlayStation Blog.
To quote: This morning, our friends over at SCEE launched their site, bringing you pertinent, region-specific news like local PlayStation Store updates, release dates, prices, and more. Also, they have charming accents.
We encourage you to drop in, subscribe to their feed, and drink in the European flavor (flavour?). Paris in springtime is wonderful, no?
We've been more than happy to serve our readers across the pond for the past two years or so (has it really been that long?), and we'll still be here for you in the future, doing what we do. We hope you'll still drop in on us from time to time.
And, when you do, please bring us Jaffa Cakes. We love them.
217w ago - Last week Sony's semi-official blog ThreeSpeech announced that they were making way for a new EU PlayStation Blog, and today they have followed-up with some goodbyes and news that Blog.EU.PlayStation.com will be coming in summer 2009.
To quote: So, this is it everyone. Goodbye from Three Speech. Over the years (sniff) we published over 1,500 stories, and you lot left over 35,000 comments.
Thank you all for sticking with us for so long. Thanks also for all your comments (both positive and negative), questions, suggestions for stories, news tips, solicited and unsolicited articles, friendly emails, photos, videos, tattoos and cakes.
Further thanks to those of you with sites of your own who linked to us and let us link to you.
All is not lost, you still have your PS3s and PSPs to keep you busy. Also, remember that there's an EU blog on the way - which is something you've been calling for for a long time on Three Speech, so it just goes to show that Sony were listening to us.
Make sure that the community that grew around Three Speech carries on there and that you continue to tell SCEE what you think. The future address will be http://blog.eu.playstation.com,...
