256w ago - A quick story resulting in a quick hack job... LordLeXaT's PSP battery broke, and with no money to buy a new one, he turned to his MacGyver box set to determine the best possible route... a modification that allows him to use a Nokia battery as follows:
What you see below is a standard Nokia battery (BL-5C) pack used with the original PSP battery control board. So now that all is said and done, LordLeXaT has a longer lasting battery than most of you, or so he says.
"The battery is lighter and has nearly 150% lifetime of the original 1800mAh PSP battery, and by the way, the text of the Nokia battery reads 1020mAh."
We don't have a tutorial for you, but for the most part, it seems straightforward. And please, exercise caution should you attempt this battery mod yourself.
275w ago - Earlier last week, Sony Computer Entertainment America marketing head John Koller revealed during a interview that the battery life of the PSP-3000 would be reduced by around 20-30 minutes due to the larger power draw of the handheld's brighter screen.
Despite this, Koller issued a clarification statement on the official PlayStation Blog today, reassuring consumers that the PSP-3000 model will have "equivalent battery life to the current PSP," which equates to 4 to 6 hours for games and around 4 to 5 hours for UMD videos.
The enhanced screen does consume more battery juice, but according to Koller, Sony's engineers have managed to reduce power consumption of other system parts, making it all even out.
To quote: Hi, everyone, there have been reports about the battery life of the new PSP system (PSP-3000) being shorter than the current model (PSP-2000), following an interview we recently did with Gamespot. I'd like to make a correction and clarify that the new PSP will have equivalent battery life to the current PSP, about 4 to 6 hours for games and about 4 to 5 hours for UMD videos.
276w ago - Speaking in a recent interview, Sony Computer Entertainment America product marketing manager John Koller revealed that the battery life of the PSP-3000 will be decreased by 20-30 minutes, due to the larger power draw of the brighter screen.
Battery life will decrease by a small amount, it's about 20 minutes maybe 30 minutes and that's because there's a larger power draw with the brighter screen.
Good news is, despite previous reports to the contrary, the PSP extended battery life pack is not being discontinued and will be available to consumers this holiday season, offering 8-10 hours of play time.
312w ago - Update: The only difference between this and a previously released charger is that this Sony official peripheral is also compatible with the PSP-2000 series. At least, according to the packaging. We're pretty sure the original chargers will also work with the new systems.
The Official SCEA press site has been spotted donning an external charging solution for the PSP. The only difference between this one and a previously released charger is that the new one is compatible with the PSP-2000 series according to the packaging.
To quote: It looks like Sony's releasing an official external battery charger. At least, that's according to photos unearthed from SCEA's press site. An external charging solution is great for those that have more than one battery -- quite possibly because of the purchase of a new extended-life battery. No official details on price or release date yet, but we're sure that Sony isn't really rushing to get this peripheral out into the wild.
