Infinity Ward handed out codes for the Call of Duty 4 Beta earlier this week, but this was limited to just US players who signed up for it on CharlieOscarDelta. The registration has now closed and a few thousand gamers got their hands on the elusive codes.
However, if you aren't patient enough to wait for another round of prize draws, then there are a few ways to get onto the Beta.
Peter Marks has been a part of the Bungie community, both inside and out, for more than ten years. Myth players knew him as BNA Mordia. Halo PC players knew him as Lud. Sony says that the ultimate aim of Web 2.0-style user generated content is to make games more open and accessible.
VP of worldwide studios, Jamie Macdonald, said: "There's a changing landscape out there regarding how people interact with entertainment. People now, out of the box, expect to be able to interact in a connected fashion, and to exchange experiences built around that."
He went on to say: "I think what we're doing with Home, SingStar and LittleBigPlanet is, essentially, providing the environment in which people can create their own entertainment experiences and share them with a much wider circle of friends than they've had before."
Peter Edward, director of the PlayStation Home platform group added: "We're into another area where gaming is not just an interactive experience, but it's an interactive experience with your friends, rather than with the people who made the game."
"Giving people that semi-ownership of the game it... More »

Video game violence is, as ever, a hot topic, and Gamasutra and GameProducer.net asked former Thrill Kill and current Sony producer Harvard Bonin, Bizarre Creations' Peter O’Brien, Stainless Games' Ben Gunstone, and Gas Powered Games' Frank Rogan to discuss legislation, responsibility, and mature games.
Thrill Kill & Ethical Censorship
Said Bonin, "This particular topic is very timely, and also very, very complicated. As the publishing producer of a notable fighting game [Thrill Kill, pictured] that was canceled years ago I believe I have unique insight. Unlike the recent Manhunt saga it was a business and ethical decision - not a governmental censorship issue."

As the title states, the grand prize is a trip for two to Las Vegas. The trip includes airfare, hotel accommodations, and a trip to the spa to relax after a long day of gambling. Three runner ups will receive a copy of the World Series of Poker: Battle for the Bracelets game.
Three is a trend, or so the saying goes among journalists. So what are we to make of the steady exodus of highly acclaimed developers from the warm embrace of Microsoft Game Studios into the arms of others? Last Thursday's news that Electronic Arts had acquired BioWare Pandemic from Elevation Partners for nearly $800 million marked the third time in just three weeks that a top developer of multiple Xbox games has jumped ship. First, on September 26th, Activision announced that it would be purchasing the previously-independent U.K. studio Bizarre Creations, which made four Project Gotham Racing games for MGS between 2001 and 2006. A week later, rumors began to mount that Bungie—the brightest light in the MGS firmament by virtue of its three best-selling Halo games and the only one of the three Killer B's actually owned by Microsoft—had repurchased its independence from the Redmond giant.
The rumors proved true, and by the end of the week, both parties released statemen... More »
