186w ago - Just under two weeks ago it was reported that C4Eva is working on a new XBox 360 DVD Firmware dubbed iXtreme LT (Lite Touch).

Today Team Jungle have posted the following progress updates on it via their Twitter page, as follows:

• Lots of performance data put into fw!

• Note: Backups need to have SplitVid from now on to be safe for LT

• LT is not only Lite Touch, lots of great new code making this version the most accurate fw eva!

• New code looking good, lots of new code!

• iXtreme LT for all drives, in dev/testing and going well. No ETA!

The upcoming XBox 360 Firmware aims to be as close to the original as possible, with hopes of less possible bans via detection.

187w ago - Today to celebrate the PS3's third birthday (yea, right ) Microsoft's Major Nelson has announced that the new XBox Live fall update is now available for XBox 360 users, which features Twitter, Facebook, Zune Video and Last.FM support.

To quote: "We've just released the latest new features for your Xbox 360. In case you've been off the grid for the past few months and don't know what is in this update, allow me to give you the some of the highlights: Facebook, Zune Video, Twitter and Last.FM.

Here is how to find 'em: Facebook and Twitter will appear automatically on your dashboard in the new My Community channel, Zune Video is in the Video Channel and Last.FM will be found under the Music Channel.

Assuming you have the latest Xbox 360 system update from Xbox LIVE, these new features will automatically appear sometime over the next few hours. Availability of these features will vary by region.

Remember, if you are under 18, you'll have to wait a little longer for some of these features."

199w ago - At E3 Microsoft said that Xbox Live users would need to be Gold members (requiring an annual fee) to access Last.fm without paying for a Last.fm-specific subscription.

What Microsoft didn't mention, however, was that these limitations would extend to both Facebook and Twitter as well.

This news was buried in Microsoft's late night press release about the new Xbox 360 price adjustments. Here's what the press release says, to quote:

"Xbox LIVE Gold Membership will be required for Twitter and Facebook when they are available, and is required for Netflix. Games, media content and Netflix membership are sold separately; a hard drive is required for storage."

When Facebook and Twitter's Xbox Live extensions launch later this year, you'll need to be a paying subscriber to access the applications.

The press release doesn't get anymore specific than saying the social networking add-ons will arrive sometime "this fall," as Microsoft has said in the past.
