The console market today is as tough as any industry there is, but it wasn't always like this. For the past several years the PS2 has been the console to trump, and before it there was the original PlayStation which also dominated the market.

One unclear question still remains though; will the PlayStation 3 remain atop the market? Many analysts believe that this will in fact hold true, but why are they claiming this? In my personal opinion, here are the Top 5 reasons that the PlayStation 3 will eventually re-take the lead in the game industries market.

#5 The Xbox 360 and How It Matches Up

The Xbox 360 is a great console, but it has its flaws. The Xbox 360 is a very similar console to the PS3. They have similar play and they have similar specifications. The Xbox 360 has an estimated 30% failure rate and this will cost Microsoft dearly. The Xbox 360 is struggling to maintain its position in America, and if that isn't enough it can't even ga... I am a huge PC gamer. I don’t necessarily have the most powerful rig to run the latest and greatest games with all the bells and whistles turned on, but it serves me just fine.

However, there are some of you who will stop at nothing to have the ultimate gaming PC. For those people I present to you... the nVidia Quadro FX 5800.

What makes the nVidia Quadro FX 5800 so awesome, you ask? Well, for starters it has 4GB of onboard memory, and has a bandwidth of 102GB/s.

Or to translate: It’s the most powerful graphics card on Earth.

So how much do you think this bad boy costs? $400? $500? $800?! ...no. Try $3,500.

Yeah, $3,500. For $3,500 you could buy a whole computer — and a damn good one, at that. But, if you have the money to burn (and I mean that literally) and you want to see if a graphics card that was designed for medical computers can handle Far Cry 2... why not?

Note: I know it’s not a ... More »

Game installs on the PlayStation 3 have become a huge problem. We’ve seen hard drives fill to capacity already and there looks to be no end in sight.

I was pleasantly surprised when Resistance 2 nixed that huge 5GB install that most games these days require.

This isn’t to say there’s no install. The game drops roughly 350MB of data onto your hard drive, which takes about 90 seconds. Not bad at all considering games like NBA 09: The Inside use over 2.5GB of precious hard drive space.

I just wanted to give credit where credit is due. Kudos, Insomniac! Good job stepping in and putting a stop (or at least a pause) the problematic game installs that are plaguing the PS3. Keep up the good work!

What’s not to like about PS3? Playing videos games, accessing PlayStation Network, intuitive firmware updates via WIFI/ LAN/Flash Media, abundance of video formats support and least but not last, most consistent and fastest loading time Blu-ray player to date.

Japanese site PhileWeb has put a 2nd generation BD recorder, a few 3rd generation Blu-Ray standalones, and the good old PS3 on test; no surprises here, PS3 once again came out on top in terms of disc loading speed.

If you have one of those older generation Blu-ray players, you know how frustrating it can be when it comes to loading BD-JAVA interactive menu. Painfully slow! The newest Sony entry level BDP-S350 and a $2,000 flagship BDP-S5000ES promise an improvement in this area, but how do the 3rd generation BD players stack up against the cell-power PS3?

Still behind... test after test PS3 has proved to be the fastest l... More »

Sony is in deep trouble. The company has been forced to slash its earnings forecast by 57 percent amid deteriorating economic conditions and its inability to compete more effectively in markets throughout the world.

Of course, Sony will still post a profit--most analysts claim that it'll be about $500 million--but the downturn speaks to Sony's issues and the fact that this once-dominant company has been downgraded to an also-ran in the industry.

Remember the days of Sony dominance? It was a time when the Walkman was on the minds of tech lovers around the world and the PlayStation moniker was held in the highest regard. Sony TVs were everywhere, and the company's ability to capitalize on any market was truly astounding.

But since then, Sony has lost its way. It's no longer a company that can rely on its name to beat other companies to a pulp, and with more competitors realizing how to beat Sony, it has quickly become irrelevant in many markets. More »
