158w ago - Previously PS JailBreak users were warned not to update to PS3 Firmware 3.42 as it patches the PS3 JailBreak exploit, and today theruler and others on PSX-Scene (linked above) report that PS3 Firmware 3.42 consoles are now hitting retailers which have removed the exploit currently used for PlayStation 3 JailBreaking.
To quote: Several members of this forum and others have been reporting buying brand new PS3 Systems that come with 3.42FW. Systems above 3.41 cannot be jailbroken.
While not all systems in stores are 3.42FW and people have still reported buying 3.40FW systems, the increased reports of 3.42FW systems can only be a sign of things to come with Sony attempting to combat the jailbreak on all fronts, and signals an incoming scarcity of consoles with 3.41 or below.
If you or someone you know buys a system that comes with 3.42 please post as much information as possible in this thread. (Including box description, barcode, other codes, SKU, etc. Pics plz!)
Just got a ps3 160gb from the zellers moonlight madness and it came with 3.42
166w ago - Update: For those curious exactly why PS3 3.42 Firmware version games won't run with PS3 JailBreak, HERE is why, to quote:
"Apparently with the introduction of 3.42 firmware, Sony added new encryption keys for their games. What this means is all new games will begin using these keys (MOH being the first). Since 3.41 firmware doesn't contain these encryption keys, the firmware can't decrypt and run newer games. When it fails to decrypt a game it produces the error 80010019.
Don't panic just yet, this isn't the end of all hope for playing newer games on 3.41 firmware. If hackers somehow figure out a way to decrypt these newer games' executable (EBOOT.BIN), they could then redistribute the decrypted executable for each new game. Then the new games could be once again playable on 3.41. However, do not get your hopes up as this is a ways off. It seems for now, jailbroken consoles are stuck with the current crop of games."
Previously it was reported that F1 2010 was the first game to require PS3 Firmware 3.42, however, today lineX7 has confirmed...
168w ago - According to PSGroove (linked above) and DJLO at PSX-Scene, F1 2010 is the first PS3 Game to require updating to PlayStation 3 Firmware version 3.42 which blocks both PSJailBreak and the PS3 Proxy Methods.
I was on IRC and the news broke, apparently it requires you to update and if you cancel, it takes you back to the PS3 XMB. The war has just began and Sony made the first move: User 0 vs Sony 1.
To quote: "If you ignore the game's warnings, it throws you back to the XMB. Technically this should just require some editing to the PARAM.SFO's version, in order to get the game to boot on 3.41. However, time will tell."
170w ago - A few days ago Sony released PS3 Firmware 3.42 which plugged the PS3 JailBreak exploit, and today they have blocked PlayStation 3 proxy connection methods amid reports of 3.42 update issues.
As of today, to connect to PSN and use your PS3 online users are required to update to Firmware version 3.42 rendering the PS3 Firmware Bypass and DNS methods useless.
Additionally, garyopa reports via Product-Reviews.net that some users who updated to PS3 Firmware 3.42 are now experiencing various issues, to quote:
"There is numerous reports of 'Sound Problems,' they seem to be the biggest problem, with sound cutting in and out. Also reports of games like COD:MW2, Battlefield 2: Bad Company, Madden 2011 in crashing or not even loading at times.
Of course with every new firmware update, there is the series of reports of 'bricks,' the PS3 just looping, or frozen forever after the update."
