167w ago - Today KaKaRoTo has introduced a common repository of payloads that can be used by any PS3 JailBreak implementation called PL3, and also said he is making progress with PSFreedom ports for PS3 Firmware 3.01, 3.10 and 3.15.
To quote: "I'll announce two things, first, let's talk about PL3.. PL3 is a new project I started in order to have a common repository of payloads that can be used by any 'jailbreak' implementation. I got tired of copying payloads from PSGroove, and I had some nice changes in mine that I thought the PSGroove project could benefit from, so I thought I'd create a single repository that both projects, PSFreedom and PSGroove (or any other similar projects) could use.
You can find it in github, so don't hesitate to submodule it and use it.
Second important news... I've bought a new PS3 just for homebrew. Thanks to all who donated money so I can buy it (I didn't get enough donations to pay for it, but enough to help me). I bought this PS3 used and it came with firmware 3.01! This is good and bad news : I can't use PSFreedom to jailbreak it, so i've put on hold any improvements for it, however,...
205w ago - We recently got a chance to explore the new PS3 Debug 3.15 firmware, and discovered that contrary to PS3 Firmware 3.10 the 'PSPemu' PSP emulator folder in /dev_flash of version 3.15 is no longer hidden.
The 3.15 PSPemu folder filelist is below, and is a bit interesting.. In the root of the folder contains the emulator, psp_emulator.self, the translator psp_translator.self, a folder labeled release, and of course a folder labled flash0.
For anyone familiar with the PSP, flash0 is of course the flash. It contains basic folders, with fonts, logos, and user PRX's.
The release folder contains different SPRX's requried for the emulator, from system, to umd and even network files.
To of course, quell any giant "we can make a CFW for the PSP work on the PS3" - it's not going to happen any time soon, things will still be signed from PSN, ala a PKG, which we can not edit - so sadly any luck with trying to inject our own code will be useless for now.
209w ago - Update #3: PS3 Firmware 3.15 is now a mandatory update, as confirmed by hacked2123.
Update #2: Despite Sony previously stating otherwise, Examiner.com reports that the Data Transfer Utility for the PlayStation 3 can transfer copy-protected saves from one PS3 system to another, to quote: "Even saved data that is copy-protected can be transferred (moved)."
