Per John Diamonon (Capcom) via PS Blog:

I’m glad to be back here with the PlayStation Posse and talk about a game that I’m looking forward to – Age of Booty. No, it’s not an online dating game.

It’s a casual, pirate-themed, online strategy game from some of the makers of Halo.

Actually, I consider this more of a multiplayer party game because it’s really easy to play and allows for a lot of smack talk. Yarrr!

Here are more details:

• Release date: Soon (I’ll confirm when I get a solid date)
• Price: Only $9.99!
• Trophies: No comment at this time.
• Add on content: Lots of free map packs in the future plus some cool expansions.
• Players: Up to 8 players online – You can play a 4 player local match then take the team online!
• Demo:Available a couple weeks after launch with online multiplayer matches!

Well it's about time we heard more on Deus Ex 3 (PS3, 360). First off, for those who are worrying for the third installment of the controversial series, put your minds at ease: the creators of the original game gave Deus Ex 3 their blessings.

The latest issue of PC Zone reveals details on the game's story, protagonist, and gameplay, and it sounds like a worthy addition to the franchise. The story was drafted in consultation from the original writer Sheldon Pacotti, and with the blessing of the original creators, Harvey Smith and Warren Spector.

Deus Ex 3 promises a "powerful, layered" plot set in 2027, which sets the game as a prequel to the first game whose events were set in the 2050s. PCZ describes the dystopian future in which the story is set:

Deus Ex 3's vision of the future sees holographic screens flicker atop ferries moving back and forth in front of the Shanghai skyline, now split into two layers with the rich on the... More »

After numerous rumors since it's initial announcement, today Nintendo has issued a statement to CVG to clarify the confusion over the region-based restrictions on the new DSi.

To quote: "DSi software (software that is only compatible with DSi) is region locked, eg: European DSi software can only be played on European DSi consoles," a Nintendo spokesperson has told CVG.

They confirmed that this means BOTH download-able games and future DSi-only cartridge-based games would be region locked.

"Nintendo DS software however is region free so you can play any DS software on DSi from any region. You can also browse the Internet on your DSi wherever you are in the world and exchange your photos with friends from around the world."

This follows a statement from NOA exec VP Cammie Dunanway saying: "I believe that just as you can current... More »

Just bought a PlayStation 3 console when I read the rumors of a PlayStation 4 coming out soon and all the mind blowing possibilities of the theoretically new console.

I could barely afford the PS3 much less worry about what its going to cost for a PS4. But, based on what Paul Holman (Sony Vice President of Technology) told TechEBlog in 2006, the PS4 will not be out until at least 2010.

Then there’s the rumor that the future PS4 will use the same existing cell processor that the current PS3 uses, according to a Japanese tech news site PC Watch. I’m not sure about that because if this rumor does prove to be true, I’d be sorely disappointed.

For the most part, why invest in all these upgra... More »

Electronic Arts is hunting to rebuild its connection with the hardcore by releasing a plethora of new IP’s titles that appeal specifically to a certain section of the gaming arena.

Their recent deal with an internal Epic Games Studio “People Can Fly” (creators of Painkiller) and Grasshopper Studios is just a minor step in this direction.

They are also looking out to buying out companies who have produced a quality lineup of games. After their failure to capture Take-Two Studios, the rumor mill strongly suggests that Electronic Arts are seriously contemplating in buying out Epic Games.

Their main aim is to fund the development of the next generation of Unreal technology and acquire exclusive licensing rights over it (Unreal 4.0). This also means that we might be witness to the next Unreal Tournament game and Gears of War sequel being published by Electronic Arts as well.

A minor step in this direction has already taken place wit... More »

By now you have likely heard that the highly anticipated Gears of War 2 will not be making its way to your PC. Assuming that you wanted to play it there in the first place, the news may have come as a disappointment to you.

Personally, I don’t play very many games on my PC, with the exception of an obscure MMO called World of Warcraft that you may or may not have heard of. Regardless, according to the PC Gaming Alliance, which I had the opportunity to speak to at the past GDC, the PC gaming population is alive and growing.

Epic Games VP, Mark Rein, is a member of this alliance which also includes representatives from NVIDIA, Dell, Intel, Gateway, and others.

That said, I decided to reach out to Mark and ask him personally about his company’s decision to not release Gears 2 on the PC. Specifically, I reiterated the statements made in a recent interview, by his lead designer (CliffyB if you live under a rock), where he had cited piracy c... More »
