We haven't announced a specific date but we will make a public announcement." he replied.

Buser also went onto say that Home is going to be a very different experience maybe, six, twelve months down the line compared to what you see on day one.

To quote from the Gamasutra interview:

And Home is definitely going to launch this year?

JB: it's imminent. We haven't announced a specific date but we will make a public announcement.

It has suffered many delays already, of course.

JB: When you think about PlayStation Home you really have to think of it, as I've said before, as a massive undertaking. We've been trying to create something that really has never been done before.

But we're now at the point where we've created the platform, third-parties are creating content for the platform, and yeah, we have executed on our vision and we're standing in a really good place with it and we will launch this year.

The platform is really strong. It's going to allow us to scale very organically with all the content that third parties are going to be adding -- you're really going to see PlayStation Home evolve over time.

When you go into PlayStation Home it's going to be a very different experience maybe, six, twelve months down the line compared to what you see on day one.

It feels as though I've been writing about PlayStation Home for years. I haven't, it's only been months in reality, but with its release being delayed constantly, known and unknown development issues, and questions still remaining, it feels like the service has been a long time coming. Which makes any official word from Sony very interesting indeed.

Jack Buser, the director of PlayStation Home, recently sat down with IGN to discuss Home. He talks about why we should care about it, what experience it will give us, and what is it with all these delays.

He explains that Home is going to be a place to meet friends online, to find gamers of the same skill level and into the same games as you. It's going to replace the arcade as the place to make new friends and share your hobby with them. All in all, Sony is excited about Home, and so, apparently should you be.

Great, so where is it and when can we, the great unwashed who haven't been invited to try the closed beta be able to experience the joys of Home? Buser claims the service is now entering the final stages of closed beta, with the open beta very close to launch. And he goes one further by stating:

"Like we've said, we're excited about moving PlayStation Home into its Open Beta stage this year. Once we make the move to Open Beta, everyone will have access to PlayStation Home."

That's right folks, just five weeks before the end of the year is upon us, and the man in charge of Home has categorically stated that everyone will have access to Home before the start of 2009. But even though we're all be invited, Home will still be in beta?!?

I can understand the delays, although I'm not happy with them. Home is, after all, something new and as yet untried in the gaming community. But it can't be good that the beat looks set to continue for well, forever by the looks of it. Could it be that Home is set to be like so many other Internet services and remain in beta forever, constantly being tinkered with?

I'm actually looking forward to PlayStation Home immensely, having lost my early pessimism over how good it could or would be. But to say everybody's becoming a little bit impatient is the understatement of the year. Just release it already and let us see why it has taken so long to develop.

WipEout HD is hard. If you've played the game, you probably know that and, if the newest patch is anything to go by, the developers at Studio Liverpool have also realized this.

The new WipEout HD patch v1.20 reportedly makes gaming life a whole lot easier. The patch allows you to change the difficulty setting within campaign mode to novice, skilled or elite just like in other modes. In turn, this changes the medal requirements which makes completing things a much easier task.

To quote: Updating the game to version 1.20, which will happen as soon as you start the game, will make getting medals in campaign mode a lot easier. You can now change the difficulty setting within campaign mode to novice, skilled or elite, just like in other modes. This changes the medal requirements, making completing the game a much simpler experience.

It also means the difficulty ramp for the game is far less steep, as you can blitz through on novice, then change up to skilled and then, eventually elite. The medals look different for each difficulty, so you can clearly see on which mode you've completed each task.

This doesn't help with the most difficult trophies, but at least completing the game is actually possible for normal humans. So, if you haven't played WipEout HD for a while, give it another go. You might get sucked in all over again - we certainly did.

Capcom's John Diamonon shared the following today via PS Blog:

Joe Esposito once eloquently proclaimed that "History repeats itself" and it's an honor for me to announce that Street Fighter returns today on the PlayStation Network. On a personal note, it's been a dream of mine to work on this franchise. I remember going to the local 7-11 and spending hours trying to pull off an invisible throw or handcuff glitch.

I remember sharing theories with my friends that it was possible to throw that rock in the Chun-Li stage, pull out Guile's gun, control Ryu's red fireballs or defeat the mysterious Sheng Long. Street Fighter was a cultural phenomenon not seen since the days of Pac Man. Here we are, almost 20 years later, and this franchise is as relevant as ever.

Here's the final HD Remix video for your viewing pleasure.

96caa475/

Enough of my reminiscing. I'm here to talk about the next installment of the SF2 series; Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Special Champion Hyper Alpha EX Versus Zero Plus Collection Edition (am I missing anything?). Ah Capcom, we love long game titles. I can go on and on about the many features of this game, but instead, I'll provide you this link that contains all you need to know about HD Remix.

I'm also really excited to give you an exclusive soundtrack inspired by the Street Fighter series. The Street Fighter Underground Remix soundtrack contains tracks from artists that I admire with that underground, hip hop flavor. Did I mention that you can download these tracks for free on the PlayStation Network?

I have fond memories battling my frat bros on the SNES and listening to Souls of Mischief's "93 til Infinity". You know Hieroglyphics had to be on the album. You'll also hear the musical stylings of Redman, Oh No, Mistah F.A.B, Zion I, DJ Toure and the turntable legend himself, DJ Qbert.

Oh, did I mention these tracks were FREE? Go to our MySpace Music page to hear previews of the songs. Make sure you add us!

Anyway, I just want to say that it's been a pleasure talking to all of you and answering your questions, and replying to your comments. It's been fun responding to the trophy issue for like the umpteenth time! We hear you, though.

Have a great turkey day and see you next time when I talk about Flock (coming in January). See you online!

Peace in the Middle East,
John D
(PSN ID: HIERO9D3)

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift's Game Director Nigel Kershaw issued a challenge today for fans as follows:

So MotorStorm: Pacific Rift has been out a couple of weeks, and we're all back from our vacations, rested, refreshed and ready to give you a run for your money on the online leaderboards in Time Attack.

If you're not familiar with Time Attack in the MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, it's a game mode where you attempt to get the best lap time possible using one of the vehicle classes on one of the 16 racetracks in the game.

It's different than regular MotorStorm racing, as it's just you on the track with no opponents to worry about, and it's all about getting around the track in one piece. If you crash or manually reset the track during the course of a lap, then that time will not be uploaded to the online leaderboards.

There is a different board for each of the eight vehicle classes on each of the tracks, as well as an overall board for each track showing the very fastest times regardless of vehicle used.

Since launch we have had an embargo on members of staff posting to the Time Attack leaderboards, in order to give you guys a chance to get comfortable with the game.

Now that embargo has been lifted, and we'll be on there looking to give you a run for your money (although looking at some of the times that have been posted our 'leet skills need a bit of work ;-))

Are you struggling to get onto the leaderboards in Time Attack?

Here's a few tips that might help:

- Conservation of momentum - Braking (obviously) and hard turning all reduce your speed. The fastest laps are the ones where you brake and turn as little as possible.
- Explore different routes - Each track is a myriad of routes. The optimal route for each vehicle will need some searching out to find.
- Exploit your chosen vehicle's advantages
- Clear the route - After each lap your timer resets, but any objects you have knocked around the track will stay in their new positions. You may want to use a warm-up lap to clear the track of obstacles before going for that hot lap.
- Hang time is slow time - Time spent in the air over jumps is lost time - you're not accelerating. Keep the height and distance of jumps down to a minimum.
- Turn in the air - While in the air you still have some control over the direction your vehicle is facing. Use this to line yourself up for a perfect exit when you land.
- Nurse that boost - Save your boost for the long straightaways. Boost is more efficient if used in long bursts, as each time you hit the boost the first 'surge' costs you quite a lot.
- Watch and learn - If you want to know how some of those really fast times are down, take a peek. Download ghosts from the leaderboards and see if you can keep up.

Early on, there was a bit of a problem with the online leaderboards for some players. This has now been fixed, and we have more than one million scores posted online to-date across all race modes.

That's it for now, good luck getting those fast times!

Now that the "new" PlayStation.com has launched, and with the PlayStation Network fully integrated into the site and forums, there is one thing that is blatantly missing... That one thing is avatars.

Avatars are defined as a "user's representations of himself/herself or alter ego". Part of what makes the Internet so special, is that things such as "avatars" let users basically be anything they want to be.

So why on the PlayStation Network are we forced to choose from a set of 200+ avatars, most of which are horrible and no one would actually want to use? The offering Sony has given us certainly doesn't represent us gamers, or PlayStation fans at all.

Sure there are some bearable avatars out there, like the Motorstorm avatar, or a Nathan Hale avatar, but since they are the only decent avatars, it's not uncommon for 15 of your PSN friends to have the same exact avatar as you.

The old PlayStation.com forums allowed you to upload your own avatar (after a certain post count), now that the PlayStation Network has merged with the PlayStation.com forums, will that mean we will get to upload our own avatars soon?

No word yet from Sony, but lets hope that they listen to us PlayStation fans that want to express ourselves a little more than a choosing from a list of sub-par avatars.

What about you guys? What avatar are you using? Would you still use that avatar, if you could upload you own? Didn't think so.

Sony confirms its recently announced network numbers include accounts from both the PlayStation 3 and PSP, but no duplicates; analyst estimates 50 percent of PS3s have gone online.

On Tuesday, Sony made a stir when it announced that its free PlayStation Network had attained 14 million "active users."

The number, revealed to celebrate the PlayStation 3's second birthday, was remarkable, as it appeared to match the 14-million-strong subscriber base for the pay-to-play Xbox Live. Microsoft's online service launched in 2002 and has been a central pillar of its strategy since the Xbox 360 launched in 2005, one year before the PS3.

Three days later, Sony has now clarified what exactly it counts as an active PlayStation Network user. "Seeing as PlayStation Portable does include PlayStation Network services (i.e. games store natively on PSP), yes those numbers do include all PlayStation Network registrations," said a Sony representative.

The rep also said, to guard against duplication, Sony does not count a registration made on the PS3 and then used on the PSP (or vice versa) as two accounts. Like with Xbox Live, the figure also includes multiple accounts used on the same console or in the same household.

So how many PSN users are logging on via the PS3? Sony declined to release any specific numbers, preferring to play up the PS3's rising registration rate. "We've seen an increase in unique [PS3] consoles registered for PSN compared to the sell through rate, which means we are seeing more PlayStation 3 owners who didn't previously register, do so lately, based on the new features we've added to PSN, such as Video Store and Trophies," said the rep.

IDC game-industry analyst Billy Pidgeon concurs, estimating that PS3 PSN registration has skyrocketed 160 percent since January 2008. That said, he still estimates that only around 50 percent of PS3s have logged onto PSN, versus 60 percent for Xbox Live. With Sony announcing last month that 17 million PS3s have been sold worldwide, Pidgeon's estimate pegs the number of PS3-based PSN users at 8.5 million, not 14 million. "Remember, though, they're not claiming that every account is a connected PS3," he told GameSpot.

However, as a veteran of game-industry analysis, Pidgeon knows that the tide can turn. "Sony has released some numbers for SOCOM and Resistance 2 that are pretty impressive in terms of concurrent users," he elaborated. "It's got a ways to go until they get to the level where they're putting out their PSN IDs, but that's changing with Little Big Planet. When the beta for that launched, that's when people really started wanting to connect with people online, and that's really promising."

Today, we're announcing the incredible new Carson Extreme Hotrod.

We'll be back in the New Year with all the details on this powerhouse racer, but for now we're keeping it under wraps.

We could tell you that it's the fastest car in Paradise City - a stripped down, ultra low, overpowered straight line monster.

We could talk about its roots in American Rat Rod culture and it's wildly exaggerated Hot Rod features, based on a '20s Roadster.

We could explain that we've rewired Burnout's vehicle dynamics system, so it handles more intuitively and drifts more realistically than any other car.

We could reveal that it's the first of a pack of 2 cars designed to re-imagine Burnout Boost. Which explains the blue exhaust flames.

We could do all that, but we don't want to give away too much. For now, all you really need to know is that this car will give you the ride of your life and in early 2009 you will NEED to own it.

The Carson Extreme Hotrod. Light the touch paper and hang on for dear life.

We'll be back with movies, screens, more info and interviews with the creators on this and the "other" boost car that will be available to buy as part of our Burnout™ Paradise Boost Specials Pack in 2009.

Just check back to www.criteriongames.com or Crash TV for all the latest.

Next week.
VideoGamer can exclusively reveal that from January 2009 all newly released PS3 games will be required by Sony to support the console's Trophy system.

Earlier this week they received a tip from an anonymous source within the UK video game industry that, from January 2009 onwards, all newly released PS3 titles will be required to support the PS3 Trophy system.

Today a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe spokesperson confirmed that this information is accurate, stating: "Yes from Jan 09 all games must have trophies."

This news is sure to be met very positively by PS3 gamers who are currently having to put up with sporadic Trophy support from this winter's biggest releases.

Mandatory Trophy support will also put an end to post release Trophy patches that force gamers to replay games to earn the Trophies.

Per Capcom's John Diamonon today via PS Blog:

It's a great time to be a Street Fighter! It's with great pleasure that I announce that HD Remix will arrive on the PlayStation Network real soon! Now you have the chance to debate which legs are more appealing, the turkey leg you're about to have or the ones on Chun-Li.

Here are the details:
Release date: November 25, 2008 (I know, finally, right?)
Price: You've heard it here first! Only $14.99!
Trophies: Not at launch
Online Play: Of course
Graphics: 1080p baby
Gameplay: Two types - Original and Rebalanced

Here are some videos that will get you hyped for the game and will make you say, "Put him in a body bag!"

ffd990f3

7155a82d

But wait, there's more! Exclusive to the PlayStation Network, fans will have the opportunity to download the Street Fighter Underground Remix Soundtrack for free! I was able to get a few of my favorite hip hop artists to create original songs inspired by the series. Here's the line up: Redman, Hieroglyphics, DJ Qbert, DJ Toure, Zion I, Mistah F.A.B. and Oh No.

Oh yeah, we also have a "little" Street Fighter surprise coming later this holiday season. Let the speculation begin. Talk to you next week!

Hadouken!

To quote via PlayStation Underground: Tomorrow, we are releasing a new version of PlayStation Home called PlayStation Home 1.0. This version will add some exciting new features and fix several known bugs, preparing us for launch into Open Beta. You can find the full list of new features below.

Highlights include new emotes and dance moves for avatars, new arcade games, new ways to launch into games from PlayStation Home, a new game rewards system, and much, much more! We think you'll enjoy these many changes and improvements.

Home will be down for a period of time tomorrow to prepare for the launch of Version 1.0. I will let you know in the forums when it is back up.

We will be inviting a tremendous number of new beta testers soon, and conducting a massive load test this Friday night, November 21st. We will have an event to celebrate the moment. Stay tuned for further information as your assistance with this event is greatly appreciated.

Please note that the new users will not have access to the closed beta forums, as we will be transitioning to a new system in preparation for launch. More information on this to follow...

During the first weeks of the release of version 1.0, we will focus on testing core PlayStation Home assets and will need your help, and release additional content on an ongoing basis. You will notice that your 0.98 clothing and apartment decoration items will have temporarily disappeared from your inventory. Never fear, after a period of time, you will be able to get these back by going to the Mall and reacquiring them through the storefronts.

Installation and the First Visit

When you run PlayStation Home for the first time you will be prompted to reserve space on your hard drive into which data can be downloaded now and in the future. PlayStation Home will occupy 3077MB of Space on your hard drive as before.

Something new will be our simple, interactive tutorial. This introduces many of the core aspects of PlayStation Home and is available to review in your apartment. If you want to go through the tutorial again there is an option to reset it in the new Menu Pad.

Clubs and Clubhouses

A Clubhouse is a personal space for club members to meet in, and remains available for use even when the leader of the club is offline. The first active feature for Clubhouses is the bulletin board where the leader and, optionally, the sub-leaders can leave announcements for the whole club to read.

Over time new premium Clubhouse designs will become available, as will other tools and services to support and personalize your club. Please note that we are currently testing this feature, and clubs created in Closed Beta will be deleted when Open Beta starts. More information on this to follow soon.

Some facts on clubs:

- A user can own only one club at a time
- A user can be a member of a total of five clubs, which includes any self-owned club. You can own one club and be a member of four others, or simply be a member of five clubs owned by other people
- Each club has one leader (the owner) and up to four sub-leaders
- A club can have up to 32 members
- Each club name is unique
- Announcements are currently limited to four simultaneous announcements
- You can send requests to join a club and leaders can send invitations

Background Downloading

When you first visit a Space it will be downloaded to your PlayStation 3, but now you will be offered the choice of downloading it in the background. This can be used on multiple spaces at the same time. When each download is complete a message will appear to let you know, and will ask if you would like to go to that Space now.

Animations

We have spent some time on the dances and you'll find they have improved. We have removed a few of the less popular moves to make room for some new dances that should cater to your dancing needs better.

You will also find that you are now able to sit on the floor just about anywhere you like. That option is under the "extra" menu available by pressing R1. Some emotes are available while seated on the floor.

Age Limits and Ratings

Home itself is not a game and is therefore not age-rated as such. SCEA's age limit for PlayStation Home will be 13 and up from the start of Open Beta, but will remain 18 and over during the Closed Beta.

Certain things within PlayStation Home will be specifically age-rated, however, and age ratings will be displayed and enforced where applicable.

Menu Pad

The vPSP has been replaced by our new Menu Pad. This has allowed us to reorganize the menus so you should find the presentation and flow of options faster and easier to navigate. Additionally, we can now support in-game XMB throughout PlayStation Home.

Profanity Filter

We have completely replaced the profanity filter with a far more adaptable and flexible system which is able to deal with languages in isolation from each other.

Regional Travel

Currently, regional travel is accessible in your Personal Spaces and Clubhouses so you'll be able to chat and visit with friends, game launch and form clubs with people from other parts of the world. As we continue to experiment with global travel in the Closed Beta, licensing, contracts, moderation, localization and regional business direction will need to be considered. Given this, we will keep the public areas exclusive to users from their own regions for the time being.

Interface Changes

When you select full screen on something like a video or poster, it will now ensure you have a clear view by making anyone standing in the way invisible to you.

The information you see above someone's avatar has changed with added functionality. For example, if an avatar is setting up a game launching session, the name of the game and how many other people are in the group will now be displayed.

The friends list has had a small change and now a star will appear next to a friend's name if you are both in the same area in PlayStation Home.

Spaces

The shopping interface in the Mall has been rebuilt and now closely resembles the PlayStation Store interface.

The Game Space has been renamed the Bowling Alley and many improvements have been made to the games inside. Pool has been overhauled and now includes a strength gauge for your shots. Bowling has had many changes made to it including full animations for players while bowling and a much improved interface.

We also have two new games for the arcade: Ice Breaker and Echochrome, both of which feature rewards. Some of the older arcade games have been removed for updating, and many will return soon, along with some new surprises.

Please note that several of the branded game spaces will be unavailable for a period of time. This will assist us in load testing the core spaces in preparation for launch.

Rewards

Both Echochrome and Ice Breaker include our new system of Rewards. This is a means of giving PlayStation Home items as rewards for activities, trophies and other accomplishments both within and outside of Home, right across the PlayStation Network.

Grief Types

The first proper list of Grief Types is now live and replaces the old list completely. These are the categories of griefing that you can report other users for using the "Submit a Report" function. Further types will be added in the coming weeks.

Store items (Note: this only applies to the testers that had version 0.98)

As discussed earlier, items that you previously obtained from the stores in the Mall will be missing. Clothing that you were wearing will be replaced by default clothing and furniture will be gone. However, you can reacquire these items from the Mall once the items return.

Reward items from competitions, games and puzzles will be unaffected by this.

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH will release a completely updated and enhanced version of its popular GTi Club arcade game for PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Store on December 4th.

Priced just 14,99 Euro, GTi Club+ Rally Cote D'Azur boasts all-new HD visuals and widely expanded gameplay elements.

Press Release: Classic Konami coin-op heads to PLAYSTATION®Network in all-new HD livery

Available exclusively via the PlayStation Store, the 335Mb download is one of the fastest road racers imaginable. A classic race against the clock, GTi Club+ recreates the beauty of its French locale within a giant game map that is gradually opened as the player breaks certain records.

Boasting 720p graphics and running at 60fps, the game offers five distinctly different licensed cars- Austin Mini Cooper, Renault 5, Fiat A112 Abarth, Lancia Delta and the VW Golf GTi- and invites players to compete via the solo mode or against up to seven other people online.

Using timing, hidden short cuts and handbrake turns, GTi Club+ comes into its own when played online. Three difficulty settings can be selected, adjusting the severity of the course in the process, while a Bomb Tag game sees players attempting to eradicate their rivals in an explosive chase mode. The PLAYSTATION®Eye peripheral is also supported, and users can send images to their rivals mid-race, with the best times uploaded to an ever-changing online leaderboard.

Other new elements include a Sat Nav system to help traverse the open nature of the huge courses, dizzying replays, 5.1 sound including a remix of the original coin-op's music by Atjazz, and player-to-player voice comms. Konami will also make further expansion elements available in the future, including new cars.

GTi Club+ will be released for PLAYSTATION®3 via the PlayStation Store on December 4th, priced just 14,99 Euro.
