Videos: PS Vita Firmware 2.10 Hello World and VHBL Demos, TN-V v3

84w ago - Following up on Sony's recent PS Vita Firmware 2.10 release, PlayStation Vita hacker The Z has shared some videos of a Hello World and VHBL running on it alongside news of TN-V v3 incoming.

Below are the details via Wololo, to quote: It is no secret that PS Vita scene member The Z has a PSP hack available and running on the Vita. He actually mentioned that a while ago back when 2.06 was the latest and greatest.

Today, as firmware 2.10 was announced then quickly made available, we got the usual flow of questions: Have exploits been patched? Does VHBL still work? Will TN save the world from the Giant Crab?

Well at least now we can at least answer one of those, as The Z was quick to confirm that his current exploit is still alive on PS Vita 2.10, as shown in the video below.

Don’t get too excited though. This is, as is now the tradition, “only” a usermode exploit inside of the PSP emulator, running through an undisclosed PSP game, and The Z has not announced anything about a release.

To some of you, this might sound like a broken record now, but new people join the vita scene everyday and I’m sure to newcomers, or people who made the difficult choice to update, it’s always good to know things are, or will be available.

And if it sounds to you like anybody could come up with a PSP usermode exploit these days... well, yes, it’s true , but it didn’t use to always be the case!

PS Vita hack: VHBL running on PS Vita 2.10

In the video below, The Z showcases a PS Vita on Firmware 2.10 running Wagic (heroic fantasy card game homebrew, by yours truly) and Emumaster (Masterboy), a Sega Master System and Game Boy color emulator (in the video, running one of the bazillions of video games of the Pokemon franchise).

The Z mentions that he is actively working on this VHBL port, and will be trying to improve compatibility and show more homebrews in the days to come.

This looks like it’s already pretty advanced though, so let’s hope for good news. The Z did not provide any word on a release date yet.

Update: VHBL: The Z’s exploit only available in EU stores, release postponed?

We’ve mentioned recently that The Z is in possession of a PSP user mode exploit in an undisclosed game, and that he has a VHBL port ready for the game. A few days ago, The Z shared some good and some bad news...

VHBL is a PSP homebrew loader for the Playstation Vita, a tool that allows you to run PSP homebrews inside the PS Vita’s playstation emulator. VHBL has the particularity to only require a psp user mode exploit to run, and was designed to be as easy as possible to port, but its low entry bar also comes with limitations (it will only run psp homebrews, not plugins or isos).

The Z had announced a few weeks ago that he has a running port of VHBL, and he confirmed recently that his port is complete, and could be released any time soon.

Sadly, the PSP game he uses as a vector for his exploit is only available in EU stores (and Australia), in particular it is not available in the US or in JP. This means that only people with an account in a European location would be able to use this exploit. It’s relatively easy to set up an account in another location and to buy PSN credits, but Sony has made it a pain to switch between accounts on the Vita.

The Z announced he would probably release his port for a future Vita firmware (not 2.1x), depending on the importance of releasing a VHBL port at the time (which I understand as: if something better comes up, such as a new release of CEF, he will probably not bother)

TN-V v3 Coming Soon

Yet again Total_Noob’s popular Custom Emulator Firmware TN-V will be receiving an update.

After the release of TN-V awhile back and the recent release of the TN-V v2 update Total_Noob is continuing to work on his 6.60 Custom Emulator Firmware TN-V to make it a better experience.

TN-V v3 will be arriving along some time in the near future although we have no specific date at the time. The update will once again most likely be OTA, so you’ll only have to go “Network Update” in the XMB to get the latest update.

Right now, we can confirm that TN-V v3 will fix the red screen (C1-2858-3) error and compatibility with Super Collapse 3 and Urbanix Japan exploits completely. If you do happen to have one of those exploits Total_Noob is looking for some beta testers, you can PM him on the Talk forums.

TN-V v3 will also bring another requested feature and will support patched ISOs (Prometheus). As for other features and fixes, we don’t have a full list at the moment but will update you as soon as it becomes available.

Update 2: TN-V v3 is now available below, with details on the changes as follows:

The update is OTA so all you have to do to update is navigate to ‘Network Update’ in the XMB or alternatively you can find a download below (Install it like a homebrew). Thanks again to Total_Noob for his hard work and dedication.

So - they've added folders but the total amount of icons (100) remains the same??? What a WASTE of time and effort - it will be actually WORSE as I have already reached the full limit of 100 icons and adding subfolders would mean that some of the actual icons / apps / games would need to be deleted. What idiot designed that?
