Video: PS Vita Hello World on 1.67 Demo, VHBL Update Incoming

58w ago - Following up on Sony's PS Vita Firmware Update v1.67, this weekend PlayStation Vita hacker wololo has announced news of a new Hello World on PS Vita 1.67 alongside details of a VHBL update with a demonstration video below.

To quote: Hope you didn’t wait too long since our last VHBL release a bit more than 2 weeks ago… This is a new PSP user mode exploit by thecobra (also discovered a while ago by WosRet), which I confirmed runs on a PS Vita with Firmware 1.67. Unlike Motorstorm and Everybody’s Tennis, this game is available in the US store as well as some other countries (details to come). Check the video and details below.

Thecobra already ported VHBL to this exploit, and we already have something running, that just needs a few tweaks here and there before being released. So far I didn’t see anything that would prevent HBL from running on Vita 1.67, but that will need to be fully confirmed in the days to come.

The name of the exploited game is obviously kept a secret until the public announcement, and if you don’t want to miss the release, remember that history repeats itself. Sony will most likely remove the game within hours following the announcement, so stay tuned.

Congrats and thanks to thecobra!

Update: Below is another brief video update (via wololo.net/wagic/2012/04/17/vhbl-on-vita-1-67-tweaking-in-progress/) to quote:

Hey everyone, quickly showcasing the work in progress for VHBL’s port to thecobra’s exploit. To be honest, thecobra’s really done most of the work here, and I merely tweaked it to clean up the code, before compiling and giving it a try.

On the video below, I’m playing doom (again? I should be a bit more creative...) on PS Vita firmware 1.67.

The release should happen soon, although please keep in mind that I also have a real life to deal with in addition to this release, so please be patient while we’re getting ready.

Following up on the previous updates, today PlayStation Vita homebrew developer wololo has made available PS Vita HBL (VHBL r150) for Super Collapse 3 which now fixes some crashing issues with snes9xTYL and Lamecraft.

Download: http://valentine-hbl.googlecode.com/files/vhbl-r150-sc3.zip / http://uploading.com/files/get/988965b6/Super_Collapse_3_VHBL_154-TC.zip

To quote from his blog: This patch fixes some crashing issues with snes9xTYL and Lamecraft, among other things.

There are still remaining issues with the VHBL port of Super Collapse 3 that I couldn't solve yet, I am still investigating: the Duke3d engine is crashing (Duke3d, zombie crisis), Daedalus seems to be crashing when loading roms (I probably won't investigate this, as Daedalus is slow on VHBL no matter what), Geometry War Portable crashes at startup, Picodrive will crash if you press the "select" button, etc...

So, still lots of incompatibilities of course, but this is getting better, and I sure hope you guys will enjoy snes9xTyl. Interestingly, I had to hook sceAudioOutput with sceAudioOutputblocking, which led to a terrible performance result on the PSP, but is not that visible on the vita. Once again, the superior hardware of the Vita is helping us out.

While I'm at it, here's a tip for those who didn't know: if you press start and select simultaneously while in a homebrew, you will be taken back to the VHBL menu. This is useful for games that don't have an exit button. you can also change this key combination in the VHBL hbl_config.txt file.

Finally, TheCobra has made available an unofficial update as follows (wololo.net/2012/07/11/release-vhbl-154-tc-for-super-collapse-3-by-thecobra/):

This is an "official-unofficial" release for you guys who are still lucky enough to be on 1.67 and run VHBL on the Super Collapse 3 exploit.

TheCobra released today an updated version of VHBL for this exploit. This is an official build because TheCobra is the one who initially ported VHBL to this exploit, but "unofficial" in a way because the sources are not available yet, and I haven't had the opportunity to test it on a Vita (I'm on 1.69 now...). That being said, it worked fine on my PSP, and several users have reported a better experience than the previous release (understand: better stability) overall in some games such as Jelly Car or Lamecraft.

The idea behind the fix is that theCobra hooked a bunch of functions with a generic "ok" response instead of having HBL trying to estimate their syscall. What this means is that these functions will not work, but at least they won't crash. Depending on the function, and on how well the homebrew handles errors, this can lead to less crashes overall. Thanks to TheCobra!

I think there might be an rss feed, although I don't know how it works. Another way would be to bookmark the thread and keep clicking on it to check for updates.

If it's a secret society if you want to know the new exploited game, or Sony will remove the game, what's the point on it? Is it just for an elite group? Explain me how this stuff works, because i find all of this quite pathetic.

Over all, i want to know the forum's name where new games are found.

gtfoo... theres was more than a days time or so between the time the game was pubically announced and sony taking it down.

snooze ya loose.

plain an simple.
