reported on a 3.50 Firmware JailBroken PS3 x3Max video, and today PS3 developer
xorloser has commented on the hack, as well as explaining why obtaining the hmac key for PlayStation 3 PUP files will not lead to PS3 Custom Firmware.
To quote from his blog, linked above:
"the hmac key for PUPs doesnt magically allow custom firmware. this is because all of the files that make up the PUP are signed anyway, so you cannot make custom versions of any of those files because you cannot sign them.
as for x3max supposedly working on v3.50, i call fake."

The video is fake and it is not from the X3 Team.
By the way do you really know that teams developing a cfw or hb or anything else for the ps3 do not use debuging to optain dumps or fw files? To assemble, reverse or hack? In case DA have not shared the source how you can say that he really hase reversed the whole fw and not only some modules that let you also do this magicaly tricks?
grafchokolo, kakaroto, DeLight do a really nice job to time and also always releasing there findings with source code and teaching us new stuff.
HMMM... may be, but we have had a lot of BS regarding ps3 up until now. That leaves me cautiously optimistic, but I won't hold my breath. Downgrading already hurt my ps3's Blu player. I have sent my PS3 to counseling for its depression and PS3's shrink says "That Your PS3 has been feeling neglected. It has been hurt very badly and is not quite ready to go through it again". .... Ha!!!
seriously though I will believe it when I see it. I hope this is the real deal though, because that is why I Purchased a ps3 any way!
