Video: Project to Run PS1/PS2 Back-ups on PS3 with a Mod-Chip

211w ago - The DemonHades Spanish PS3 Development team has been working on a project which aims to utilize a mod-chip to run PS1 and PS2 back-ups on a PS3 console without opening it or using switches and have posted up a concept video today.

According to one individual with a highly questionable reputation, this concept project could work because PS1/PS2 discs are authenticated only once on the VSH though liblv2 and the PIC chip would just automate it.

However, if Sony updates liblv2.sprx and more specifically ps1rom.bin so the emulated mechacon is updated it could be patchable.

Finally, to roughly translate from the video's caption:

"This video montage shows the operation of the chip that we are developing to load copies of PS1 and PS2 (if you're retro) in the PS3.

This video shows how to work, without leaving the console open and without switches etc out.

More information on the development of moddchip www.demonhades.org."

For the retro people.. Does somebody ever tested buying a ps1 game on the psn and comparing to the game play of putting the original ps1 game disk in the ps3 ?

Is the PSN better ?

I know it's a little bit off topic but, what do you guys think ? Is there a difference between playing Final Fantasy 7 on disk and trough PSN ?

If the difference is 0, I'm considering this modchip.

this video is a demo! is not the final video! is mounted for give to YOU a idea on how use the modchip , project is still not finished, when finished everyone here will have new REAL video and instruction for program and mount the modchip on the bluray of the PS3! please be patient .

this modchip will work only on the PS3 with the PS2 hardware (so 60Gb PAL for example) .
No. This is just a disk switcher so it will work in both.

Ps3 models with PS2 support will run backups of PS2 and PS1 games.
Ps3 models without PS2 support will run backups of PS1 games.

i could do something like that too,

1 - put a self-copied cd into your ps3
2 - once the ps3 detects the cd, immediately turn off your tv
3 - disconnect the tv input from your ps3, poke it into your ps2
4 - turn on your tv
5 - edit the videos to show the tv screen and your ps3

tada! i've hacked the ps3!

Is the chip only compatibele with the 60Gb Ps3 with backw. comp.?

Or is this support the 40gb Ps3 with no backw. comp. ?
