Video: New Resident Evil Mod for Paintown on PS3 POC Demo

119w ago - As I hinted on last week, to tie in with my recent fighter packs for Mugen I have decided to work on the other side of Paintown's features which includes the side scrolling beat em up section.

What Jon Rafkind has given us with his game is a virtually easy to use character editor an level creation tool. This is my first dive into game creation and there's been some trial an error moments as well as some ''oh I see'' moments, but my understanding of this is becoming better an better with everyday I spend with this.

So anyway I sat down and decided that I was gonna do a Resident Evil side scroller. I have a lot of ideas that will work well in this mod, Ive even had a few other ideas for some future mods. I can understand why video games take an age to come out, it took me 3 days to put Hunks character together, that's ripping the sprites an putting them into there move folders then converting them one by one to be transparent so the game doesn't show the coloured background behind the sprite.

I'm using three different computers all with different operating systems to compile this mod, only because they each have different applications I can use like photoshop an ultimate fighter factory. The sprite process is so long that I didn't get to sleep till 7am for 2 nights in a row because I wanted it working before I went to bed, once you get into doing this it becomes worthwhile to see the out come of everything you do...

Anyway here's a video of how far i've got so far,its nothing special at the moment just a test to make sure everything will an should work...





I will be adding things to levels like breakable objects an herbs instead of apples an cakes for power ups, there will also be a load of enemy to beat your way through, all classic Resi bad guys, I hope you've enjoyed this sneak peek into my upcoming mod!

Following up on his previous release, this weekend French PlayStation 3 developer Markus95 has released a new Paintown 3.5 PS3 homebrew game mod featuring additional characters and courses.

To quote, roughly translated: markus95 member of logic-sunrise, now gives us a mod of his own design for the fighting game Paintown. Little wakeup call, this 2D game based on the source code for MUGEN, was designed by Jon Rafkind and covered by PS3 and Scristopher lunuxx.

The aim of this game is, as with any beat them all, hitting the opponent as much as possible to reach the end of it. This mod includes three new characters, 5 new stages, a new menu, some improvements of characters and courses already and installation of the mod has been simplified in response to requests from several people.

Procedure:

  • Download and install pkg on your console via "Install Package Files".
  • Paintown 3.5 and the mod is installed!

The author wishes to thank Jon and Rafkind Schristopher for their help on this mod but lunuxx to create the pkg.

Today French PlayStation 3 developer Markus95 has made available a Paintown v3.5 PS3 Homebrew Mod featuring new levels and characters alongside a video of it in action below.

To quote, roughly translated: Here is a mod created by Markus95 for Paintown, know that he had already worked on developing characters for this game I'll let you discover here what will happen in the MOD. Thank you to him for having warned by MP.

I can send you my Mod for paintown, containing the first 4 stages (others are in preparation), and three characters (also others in preparation) and the French translation of the menu.

Little tutorial:

  • Install 3.5 on your PS3 Paintown
  • All files are to be transferred by FTP.
  • Place the file in markus95 dev_hdd0/game/Paintown_/USRDIR/data /
  • File main.txt (French translation) in dev_hdd0/game/Paintown_/USRDIR/data/menu
  • The file in paintown.txt dev_hdd0/game/Paintown_/USRDIR/data/paintown
  • And the files contained in players (Terry, broly, ken) in dev_hdd0/game/Paintown_/USRDIR/data/players

If you dont know already - screen resolution fixed, music fixed ogg files play users can add custom tracks and they will play at random in adventure mode, you can change the main menu music by editing data/menu/main.txt

Mugen mode is still slow with other characters besides feilong, gambit and kfm...- looking for a way to fix that not sure what the problem is

Paintown PS3 Official 3.5 Status Update:

  • mp3/ogg fixed (add your own custom must to /dev_hdd0/game/Paintown_/USRDIR/data/music/ change main menu music by editing /dev_hdd0/game/Paintown/USRDIR/data/menu/main.txt) , more states implemented in adventure mode, support for multiple hit boxes in same frame, editor majorly updated
  • new character terry by marcus95, I've added batman and peter griffin to adventure mode if anyone would like to work on them further feel free too.

Moves list for peter and batman:

Batman:

  • elbow = square
  • LPtoHP = down+square (repeatedly) will preform a crushing low punch and a killing uppercut
  • MP = square after preforming elbow
  • HP = square after preforming MP
  • hardHP = X
  • uppercut = forward+X after preforming hardHP
  • grapple-up = up+square
  • kick = circle
  • kick 2 (punch and kick) = circle after preforming kick
  • kick 3 = forward, forward, circle

Peter Griffin:

  • punch = square
  • HP = square after preforming punch
  • pound = square after preforming HP
  • fart fireball = down+square
  • froggy = forward+square after preforming HP
  • uppercut = X
  • puke = forward, forward, X
  • WTF?? = square+X

What's next in 3.6 for PS3:

  • Mugen mode fixed
  • more states handled by the paintown engine (obviously)
  • network play

The PS3 isn't connected to anything (i usually just transfer from laptop). guess i'll have to try it wireless.

You have to FTP and copy the Data into the USDIR folder.
