To quote: So I'm making a sequel to my top down zombie shooter They Do Not Die. It is being made primarily for PS3 but there will also be a PC version and there may potentially be a Wii port of it later.

This is just a very early build of it but so far the game already features a truly massive procedurally generated city that is populated by human survivors and zombies that you can shoot.

One thing that I have working already that I'm really happy with is the fact that you (the player) are not treated special by the zombie AI. They will gladly ignore you if there is another human that is closer to them. There is something really cool about walking down a street and seeing people being herded by zombies.

There is collision detection that makes you bump into other people and prevents you from walking on water but there isn’t any yet for the building walls.

You are the orange circle, human survivors are pink and zombies are green. I know that not everybody likes them but the arrow circles will always be the default appearance for people in the game. But I will quickly put together some kind of a re skinned version if there are any color blind or partially color blind players that are finding it difficult to differentiate between them and there might eventually be built in support for alternate skins.

I’ll be alternating between working on this and The Unmapped Forest.

PS3 controls:

  • Left analog stick = Move
  • Right analog stick = Aim
  • R1 = Shoot

Following up on his previous release, this weekend PlayStation 3 developer ThatOtherDev has updated his homebrew game They Do Not Die 2 to version 0.8 for Windows, Wii and the PS3 console.

Below are the changes from his blog, as follows: Here is a small update for They Do Not Die 2 along with its first Windows release.

I've added blood and corpses. On Wii and PS3 they quickly shrink until they disappear but on Windows they fade instead of shrink (which I think looks a lot better) and there can be more of them in the game world at a time which means that they disappear more slowly.

I've also made a handful of minor and most likely unnoticeable changes (mostly related to city generation).

Windows controls:

  • WASD = Move
  • Mouse cursor = Aim
  • Right mouse button = Fire the rocket launcher
  • Left mouse button = Fire the machine gun
  • Left shift = Run
  • Space = Pause

Wii controls:

  • Analog stick = Move
  • Pointer = Aim
  • Left = Fire the rocket launcher
  • Down = Fire the machine gun
  • Right = Fire the shotgun
  • A = Run
  • B = Fire the machine gun
  • Plus = Pause
  • Minus = Pause

PS3 controls:

  • Left analog stick = Move
  • Right analog stick = Aim
  • L1 = Fire the rocket launcher
  • R1 = Fire the machine gun
  • L2 = Fire the shotgun
  • L3 = Run
  • Start = Pause

How awesome would it be if you can play this game on Xlink Kai using a LAN option.

Well it would take him a lot of work but it would be awesome if he could pull it off.

This guy is amazing at making games. I'm just starting to wonder when he is going to make a 1st person game (or something of the such) because I think he is fully capable of doing so. Thanks for the update.
